I may have to take Cricket to the vet today more than likely. I'm going to call my vet as soon as they open to explain what is going on and see if they would recommend me bring her in.

Last night I noticed Cricket looking like she was going to throw up. She was hacking like she was going to, but nothing came out. On the way home from work I could have sworn she threw up all over my car because it smelled and she was making sounds that sounded like she was throwing up a ton. But... There was no throw up.

As soon as we got out of the car she literally pulled me to the grass to try and eat the grass and was chowing down on the grass. She never really eats grass so I know something is upsetting her stomach.
I just woke up to her hacking a little again though not as bad as last night and she still hasn't thrown up which seems weird. I would rather her throw up whatever is bothering her stomach, but she has been trying and nothing has come out.

I really need vibes that this is nothing major and that she is going to be ok.

As far as I know she hasn't eaten anything she isn't supposed to. She wad fine all day yesterday up until around 9pm.

I can't think of what would even cause that? Something stuck in her throat I guess? I hope Cricket feels better today!

Ya I'm thinking it may be something caught in her throat. She doesn't seem to be making the throwing up sound much this morning, but she still kind of cough/dry hacks a little every so often (every 10-20 min or so). She goes to a dog daycare with me all the time so I also hope it isn't kennel cough. Last night it was considerably more of a "trying to throw up" thing though.

My vet opens in a half hour so I'm going to give them a call and bring her in if they want me to. I'm debating whether I should feed her breakfast or not. If it's something stuck in her throat I wouldn't want to make it worse or not.

Other than that though she isn't acting put off in any way. She isn't acting lethargic at all and she's still very bright and alert. She trotted next to me on our walk this morning and looked excited to be out and about as usual.

She has a vet appointment scheduled for today. Crossing my fingers that she is going to be fine. She seems to be doing better right now, but I still want to get her seen by the vet for a check up.

I will definitely keep you guys updated. I'm wondering if she may have caught something either from my work or from the MD pet expo we went to. I know at the expo there were a TON of dogs and who knows what could have been spreading around.

My poor baby girl is starting to look a little lethargic now and the past 30 minutes she keeps sounding like she is hacking up a lung. I wish our vet appointment would hurry up and get here sooner. 4 was the soonest they could get her in barring an absolute emergency. Right now I'm just keeping her hydrated and trying my best to keep her comfortable. She's been trying to sleep off most of the morning best as she can.

Harlow had the same symptoms a few months ago, and it did end up being kennel cough...

Vibes that it is super easy to diagnose and treat and that Cricket feels better soon!

If it's kennel cough it should be fairly easy to treat at least. I'm trying to think if any dogs at work have come down with kennel cough recently. I know we had two cirneco dell'etnas that came down with it recently, but I can't remember if Cricket had any contact with them around that time and I know their owner caught it fairly early and kept them away from the daycare until their vet gave the clear.

Problem is that if she does have kennel cough I have to figure out how I'm going to handle days I go to work since my work is too far away for me to easily leave her home. Don't really feel comfortable with the landlords taking care of her so I may have to see if my mother inlaw would be willing to come by during the day to take her out for a potty break if it is kennel cough.

Is there any way to keep her isolated? If she's on meds, I would think after a day or so, she wouldn't be contagious anymore.

I'd have to ask my boss. We have a bathroom in our other building that we have kept dogs crated in temporarily if we suspect kennel cough. My boss might be fine with it if I use my own crate.

We are heading to her vet apt now. Going to be early, but I'm a bit antsy to get her checked out.

We've had a crazy kennel cough thing going around our area for the last month or more. One vet finally took it upon himself to run cultures because it was so bad, and it is apparently actually a form of influenza.

I hope she feels better soon!

Do you think she could have a hairball?

Emma eats hair, and it's awful... she goes around licking the floors. We have to give her hairball pills every day, otherwise she'll spend quite a bit of time trying to get a hairball up once it's built up :yikes:

    it's canine influenza :(

The vet was worried about it being influenza because he said he has seen a surprisingly high number of cases this year compared to recent years. So... he did a chest radio-something or another, blood tests, swabbed her mouth and nose etc...

He said I actually caught it really early luckily and also thankfully she doesn't have any secondary complications right now such as pneumonia... he said that's where it can get super serious and he said she is one of the better cases he has seen this year probably because I brought her in before it got real bad.

Right now she is on some meds that should hopefully ease her coughing some, help her sleep at night and help her fight this off. I have to go back in two weeks for a follow up, unless it seems to get worse then they obviously want to see her right away.

Just saw the thread! I saw your text and couldn't find where the thread was!

So even though we already talked, I'm just glad you figured out what was wrong! I hope she feels better REAL soon because Jackson and I can't wait to see her!

I'll let you know when the vet clears her to return to normal life lol. Then we can set up a play date. :) He said at the minimum to wait about 2 weeks. She has an appointment in 2 weeks so he'll let me know then if she can be cleared to have some Jackson time.

Poor Cricket. I hope she feels better soon! It's terrible when they're sick, for them and us. :-(
