It's Matt again,
Julia has the surgery this morning. Talking with the neurosurgeon it appears to have gone well. The removed the core of the tumour to allow the pressure to reduce in the brain and hopefully relieve many of the symptoms she was having. They will be running pathology on the tumour to determine it's type and origin and over the next few days to two weeks we will know more about how we will be proceeding, up to and including radiation and chemo.
Julia was awake and talking after the surgery. Carter and I, as well as her parents, her best friend Meaghan and her Mom, and my Dad have all had a chance to visit with her until I put a kibosh on it so she could sleep. She will be in the recovery unit for the next 24 hours and then moved back to the floor.
She is still having significant difficulty getting the right words out and understanding some of what is being said, she is also still having lots of short term memory issues. These are all symptoms she had prior to surgery. It is expected there will be some improvement as she heals but we won't know to what extent for some time.
Carter and I are here at the hospital and have our own little dorm room in the family area. Sierra is on vacation at her favorite kennel and Buddy has run of the house with a daily visitor. I don't expect J will make it back online in the next day or so, but she did manage to read the first five pages of the thread last night and was touched by the support. Hopefully she'll be back on soon.
