Lately Bentley and Emma have been chewing cupboards in the kitchen. Not any massive destruction, but noticeable. I'm not sure if they're acting out because they're bored or what. I've had some issues on what to do to stimulate them lately. It's pretty cold out here in western NY and taking them for the long walks they are used to is really hard. Emma starts shivering just when she goes out to pee in the yard in the morning and that's with her wearing a coat.

Does anyone have suggestions on fun and stimulating playtime activities for small dogs?

Has anyone figured out a way to walk their small dog in the cold months?

Thanks <3

Do they have Kongs? If I gave Jester a Kong stuffed with apples and peanut butter, it keeps him busy for hours. Really. All he does is run up and down the hall, or through whatever room I'm in tossing the Kong up in the air over and over and over....It's really good stimulation for his little noodle head. :)

I also play hide-n-seek with him when it's raining outside (he bounces off the walls on a rainy day). I close him in the hallway with the door and I hide something he loves (sometimes his bone, sometimes a small treat). Then I open the door and tell him to find it. He's getting really good at it! You have to "hide" it in a really obvious place at first so they catch on. Then you can work up to the tricky spots. It actually gets my brain working on better places to hide stuff, because he's getting good!

Get them a cat!

lol, with three cats, the dogs stay pretty active inside. :D

More realistically... you can try and play fetch inside... anything to get them running a little bit.

Also, get a nice warm coat...FIDO fleece makes nice ones and take them out in the middle of the day (the warmest part of the day) for as long a walk as they can handle before they get too cold.

Good Luck

Kings are great stuffed with goodies.

Are you talking about keeping them entertained while you are NOT at home, or while you ARE???

MissBecky-- thanks a bunch! I do have the small puppy kongs, but they're really too small to stuff so the pups get bored with them easily. I think I'm going to upgrade to the medium size! Hide and Seek's a good one too! I'll have to try that!

PoodleMommy- I'll make sure I get them out for a walk during the day. I just get so nervous with my 5 lb girl :). I think I'm worrying too much!

Dulce- Mostly while I'm home during the day. I'm home w/them full time lately, but I mostly just throw around a ball.. play tug of war with them... stuff like that. I wanted to make it a little more exciting for them! :)
