First of all, Isen the whippet had a nasty looking growth removed and biopsied a couple of weeks ago. Biopsy results- Hemangiosarcoma. :(

Now I had to rush Mauno to my work yesterday with a fever of 105.8. He woke up with it, and it was NOT going down despite meds. So by 2pm he was on fluids and bloodwork running. Nasty systemic infection, scary as hell. He is still hospitalized. :(

Thanks everyone, I'm floored with both accounts. Isen is our silly Blue Dog, the "special" one that sometimes needs a safety helmet but loves everyone. I knew it was bad when the tumor ulcerated and started bleeding, but I was still hopeful. I have no idea yet if we caught it before it metastasized. Took the staples out last night, and he has two more suspicious lumps that were not there when we did the surgery. :(

Mauno was just horrible. He got out of his crate in the bedroom stiff and slow yesterday morning, walked slowly down the stairs. Took his temp right away, 105.1. Called my boss who said give him Cephalexin. He got two doses 8 hours apart, was hosed off, and in front of a fan and by 1pm his temp had crawled to 105.8. Work was closed, but another tech met me there and we got blood pulled and fluids going under the Vet's direction via phone.

There is no obvious infection, but his WBC count was very high. I hate that, how can I prevent it from happening again if we have no idea what happened, what is going on, etc???

As of 2am when I was there, his temp is down. He had a CBC run this morning, but I have not asked the results, I know the vet was doing surgeries on emergencies until 7am. I will let him sleep a bit first! The clinic is closed, but Mauno is still there with him. Hopefully tonight he will get to come home.

Tomorrow I take Lynx for an ultrasound and fetal HR check. I kinda want to forget it and hide under the covers for a few more weeks, though.

Wow that's scary! I glad Mauno is doing better. Really hoping those new lumps on Isen are nothing.

Hope everything goes well with Lynx. You have quite enough to deal with already.

Thanks everyone! It just helps to have someone else to talk to, since MOST friends don't GET the dog aspect.

We took Isen's sutures out today, and the incision healed nicely and looks better than I thought. Spoke to his Oncologist today and she said to go in and re-do it, make the margins larger. Really torn on that. Whippets are not easy under anesthesia due to their low body fat. The biopsy says he got it all, she just wants LARGER margins.

Lynx's appointment is at eleven tomorrow. Monkeys23 I also hope everything goes smoothly. Ready for your Malinois puppy yet? :p

I just bumped someone off my list for females due to some events she posted on facebook.

So glad he's coming home. I wish the vet could have figured out what caused the temp. I just hope they both heal and stay well.

Oh, gah...

Loads of vibes for Isen and Mauno. It's frustrating to not know, especially when it's that severe, but hopefully it was just some fluke and he stays well.

Good thoughts coming for Lynx and puppies, too. :)

Thanks everyone.

Mauno is home, temp is still climbing down but he's doing well. He has a bunch of ulcerated skin along his back. We suspect he might have been bit by a Black Widow.

Anyways, temp is down to 102 and he is eating well. Watching him closely, any strange signs and he goes right back to work. :)

Thanks! Mauno is at about 80%, more sores developed today. Kinda freaky, my vet keeps telling me to calm down. Fever is still down, he's still eating, but he did vomit his breakfast today. Could have been because he had half a Kong in his stomach, though. :(
