My Ginger eats their canned Venison and Potato formula. She has a history of stomach issues, so I wanted a formula with minimal ingredients (although I do give her Wellness once in awhile). She's also allergic to chicken, so needed a food that didn't slip in any chicken. She also has to be on canned food due to megaesophagus. She's had no problem with the food..her digestive issues are perfect now, her coat is good...no eye icks like she had when I got her. And what had been thought to be seasonal allergies are all but gone.

I fed the boys the dry formula for quite awhile (Ultra Premium, I think) and they all did splendidly. No stomach upsets, no excessive trips outside, good skin and coat. I only switched when I decided to go to a grain free food.

It was the only grain-free food that the rescue provided, so we have used it for fosters.

In our experience it was a good food. Seamus had severe grain allergies. At first he was on the fish formula but it made him smell fishy and I couldn't stand it because I was pregnant. The duck and potato formula took care of that problem though, and it worked really really well for him. The sores on his skin healed up and everything.

One thing I like about it as an allergy food is that they supplement it with carnitine, taurine, etc. that dogs normally get from a variety of protein sources. Since the protein sources are limited in allergy food, they don't get as many of those amino acids. It doesn't sound like a big deal, but a diet lacking in those amino acids, especially in large breed puppies, has been connected to serious heart problems/heart damage.

If I had a dog with allergies, I'd definitely consider putting them on it. It's a decent food. My only problem with it is the price. The biggest bags usually come out to about $2.00 a lb. which is really high. You can get some of the really premium brands with human grade ingredients and whatnot for less than that. For your dollar it's maybe not as good of a deal as other foods.

i used the potato and duck for a long time.... the rep used to give me free food, so i'd get a big bag every so often. It's only $40 or something at Pet Supplies Plus for the big bag.

I liked it. I've got a girl allergic to chicken and my OES has a really really sensitive tummy.. everybody did REALLY well on it. Nothing but good things to say about it. :)

We used the NB formulas for about 3 months, each month trying a new bag. I think we tried the Venision, Grain free one (can't remember the name), Duck.

Everyone did fine on it, but I feel better feeding Canidae since NB was on the recall list with some of their foods.
