Whenever I take my dog for a walk, I always seem to feel bad for him because every is afraid of my dog because of his mask and his eyes. My 8month old husky will walk up to someone and the will like flinch or back off and not want to pet him because they think hes mean but hes the most harmless dog you could imagine, but he is getting bigger now which I guess makes him look more intimidating. Can any1 relate?

OH MY...he is a beauty!!!! I can relate all too well. My poor Hammie hardly gets a chance to see anyone...then when I have company, nobody will go near him..and he doesn't even look intimidating. (I sure don't think so, anyway) It is the 'look' of your dog I guess...folks think he looks meaner than some fluffy little ball of fur (and meanwhile, sometimes those little cute ones are cranky!) Just keep telling people how sweet he is. The meanest dog I've ever encountered is my friends little chi...she will bite you in a heartbeat!! At least nobody would bother you when you are out walking. ;)

thats sad. i feel bad for your dog. but i always wanted a dog with that kinda mask and eyes. i will show everyone how sweet they can be, but for the people in my neighborhood that i dont get along with, at least they will stay away from me. they look very very smart though.

Yes, I can relate big time. I have a Blue Heeler X Pit Bull and people think he is scary bc of his face. He isnt very tall and he dont bite. My mom has a Pit Bull that every one is scared of and I dont think he looks scary either. Here are pics of them both. Spot is the Pit Bull and he is Black and white and the other is Chance.

People are always wary of my Shiva, until they see her tail wagging her whole butt. Many are still standoffish with her because she's so big. People are less wary of Kharma - until they look at her eyes. She's got the more typical Fila temperament and is somewhat particular about who is allowed to approach her or touch her. Some people she doesn't really approve of speaking to her! Lots of people are leery of Bimmer, too, but he's okay with that since the wolf in him doesn't particularly care to have anyone he doesn't know bothering him.

Personally, I think he's gorgeous and I'd have to meet him if I saw you out walking with him!

Why worry about people who obviously aren't "doggy?" :D

There used to be a lot of people in the neighborhood wary of Brady and especially when he and Jenny were together (both are big dogs). But we try to socialize them so much in the neighborhood, now a lot of people know them and I have kids run by playing all the time when we are walking and they always say "what's up Brady" or "Hey Brady". Never hi to us though, just the dogs.

southergirl 09 - wow, Spot is a beauty. I think he is absolutely gorgeous, his coloring is great. Chance is too, but I had seen a pic of him before, I have never seen one of Spot until now.

Bultrowicz - Your dog has a gorgeous mask. I think he looks very majestic.

Oh Pit Bulls and Staffs are my favorite. Dont get me wrong though, I'm scared of some, but if they are on a leash, I will ask if I can pet it and I will. i'm typically more afraid of Rott's bc U was chased down by two before. But I know not all are like that.

Maybe something's wrong with me. I've never been chased because I don't run when a dog is comming at me. I've been bitten, not to bad, but I wittnessed a co-worker getting mauled by a dobe. She had to get like 60 stitches. When I see that dog I still think its a big baby... I must have some genetic disorder (stupidity?) that won't allow me to fear even the scariest dogs.

I used to help my Dad survey and we ran into all sorts of dogs and other critters, but the only time I ever refused to get into an enclosed area with an animal was at this place that had a pen full of goats. The billies were snorting and butting the fence I was standing next to - no way I was getting into that enclosed area with 30 or more goats! It's too easy for them to get you off your feet and then you're toast.

I have people who are very scared of Codi as they say he looks like a wolf, and they are afraid to go close, but i agree with you 100% Bultrowicz, huskys are as harmless as they come. only thing Codi would do is maybe lick you to death. But thats the joys of having a husky. Codi is now 9 months and becoming more stunning each day. I will post pictures of him again soon.
