Aren't dogs supposed to COMFORT you when you are upset?

Oakley has been extra un-cuddly these past 2 weeks (i'm actually a tad concerned cause he's usually not THIS bad).

Anyways, my grandma passed away on Friday & I try to hug Oakley & he GROWLS & snaps at me  I got back last night from NY (for the memorial service) & have just been down w/everything thats going on. My bf is working nights, so I have no one to cuddle with but Oakley...but noooo, he keeps growling at me when I try.

Sheesh. usually I like his inability to put up with any sh*t, but right now, its just annoying. blah. He is darn lucky he is adorable.

Nope. :p That's a myth.

Dogs do however pick up on your emotions and respond to them - sometimes by comforting, sometimes by clowning, sometimes by growling and many other displays.

I hope you feel better soon.

Sorry about your Grandmother (((HUGS))) May she rest in peace.

Also sorry Oakley is being a butthead..........when I saw the title out in the general lobby, I thought it said "My dog is IN a hole!" I thought OMG.......what has oakley gone and gotten himself into? LOL I'm glad to hear he's an AHOLE instead of IN A HOLE! LOL

I'm so sorry about your loss. I did say your title post made me giggle. Today Zoe accidentally poked my daughter in the eye with her paw and when she yelled "Ouch Zoe that hurt!!!" Zoe just continued to wag her tail and carry on. I don't think they always realize our pain.

Yah he might be confused about your sorrow, but at least he is there for you to talk to and cry too even if we wont hug and cuddle you in response. He is listening.

And I am also sorry to hear about your grandma. RIP. ((HUGS))X100

I'm so sorry about your grandma. You must be going through such a hard time. It's too bad that Oakley isn't into cuddling. It is true though that dogs pick up on our moods. Your mood may be extra upsetting to him and maybe he's not sure what to make of it...or what is going on so he's extra opposed to being hugged. Not all dogs like hugging much in the first place and maybe he's going through a hard time too. Hopefully, you'll find some other kind of comfort from him just sitting next to him without hugging. Is there a special way you can connect with him using his style of interacting? I sure am sorry you're going through this sad time. (((hugs)))

thanks guys :)

He normally only puts up with hugging/cuddling when he is extra-sleepy...and i'm guessing too lazy to oppose, LOL.

Doberluv...ya, we ended up going for a long run. Better for both of us.
