Hello I hope someone can help cause I am concerned. We brought home a 3 month old puggle about 2 weeks ago and my cat hates him. He won't even come out of his area unless he sees that the dog is in his crate or outside. We have moved his food and he as free access to his cat box but I am still concered as I want him to get the attention he needs also. I have tried to socialize them within the crate divided and he just sat in there with no interest. Does anyone have any previous experience with this and can give some advise. I feel horrible.

Thanks

Well, cats and dogs were not created to like eachother. :D I'm convinced of this.

BUT... lemme tell you our experience..

We brought Buddy home and Apacha glared at us and did the whole, "HOW COULD YOU." She would hiss and arch up and let poor little Buddy know that she was NOT to be messed with.

We felt awful. We wanted them to get along. But we certainly were not going to push it.

They continued life like this, Buddy would approach, Apache would hiss and run off and Buddy would chase.

Then, Banzai came home. Apache, again, gave the awful how dare you glare and was like, hmmph, I just won't hang around home anymore. She would come around to eat, get her lovin's and then disappear...

Now all of a sudden she puts up with them. Maybe she realized they were as permanent as she was, I'm not really sure. But just the other night both dogs and the cat were in the same room, just a few feet away and they were peaceful.

Give your cat time to adjust. If you notice extreme behaviors you may want to consult a behaviorist. Good luck.

Good luck on you on that one! My pup and kitten are never together, I dont think theyve even seen eachother! Lizzie is out during the day and by the time she decides to get her butt in the house (she has free acess) it is late and she goes in her crate.
