I have a female German Shepard. She is 19-16 days pregnant. I have never seen a female get this moody when she is bred. She is very clingy, just lays around by me (only if I won't let her on me). She is still eating well. I used to breed and raise other dogs, but not shepards. Is this normal? Is there anything I can do to cheer her up?

I have had 2 females who got clingy. So as long as you dont think there is any medical problem I wouldnt worry. It is normal.

If it's any consolation, my two Fila grrrrls get like that when they're in season . . . PMS . . . I've got to think that hormonal changes affect all females :)

Just keep an eye on her and keep in touch with your vet.

Sounds pretty normal to me as well. My girl is ridiculously moody when in season, and she was moody when pregnant as well- a great deal more so than usual.

If that's the case then it's her first litter and she was too young to even be bred. I take it she has not had her hips checked? Unless she was penn-hipped. 2-3 years would have been a better choice to breed her. GSD's have enough hip problems already without breeding a bitch who hasn't had hers checked first. Of COURSE ASSUMING she is only 15 months old and hasn't because I don't really know if she is for sure.

Being that the OP does not even spell "German Shepherd" correctly, I'm guessing, no. :( Very very unfortunate!

I hope Graceful has a smooth pregnancy, and all of her pups are healthy, and they go to loving forever homes.

Well, the OP stated herself that her GSD was 15 months old...

Hello Everyone, I am Sithie, and these two are Graceful, a 15 month old german shepard, and Smokie, a 9yr old male cat. I am glad to have found somewhere to discuss various pet issues with others who care. Graceful was bred on July 15 to Gage, the large male in black pic.

Sounds like she is moody because she is still a baby and too youn to handle all the stress of pregnancy, lets just hope she will be able to raise the pups ok

A pregnant, 15 month old female, no health checks (?) and the owner can't spell the breeds name correctly. Sounds bad. Who's the father?

Hey, I didn't say anything rude or mean. I just stated back what she'd already said and asked who the father was. :p Everything I said was true according to what's been said. I was curious if this was going to be a purebred breeding or another "designer dog" mix. lol :)
