Start your puppy on NILIF training, you will find some useful links on how to get started at http://www.all44paws.org/links.htm

Yes, the NILIF training methods are a great idea. Most timid dogs are stressed and feel as if they need to bark at everything and protect their owners... because they feel as if all of the responsibility is on them to be pack leader. It should be the other way around.

About the potty training, you need to make it a positive experience. You should choose either paper or outside training, as using both is probably confusing your pup. All of my dogs are pee pad trained, and to train them I have used praise, praise, and more praise. Since your dog is not potty trained, do not let her out of your sight when you are home... if you can not supervise, put her in her crate. If she starts to go to the bathroom in the wrong place, pick her up, place her on her pad (or run her outside) and praise her. If you outside train, you need to be taking her out frequently until she is better trained.
Some dogs are just easier to potty train than others. Small dogs have small bladders meaning more frequent urination. I would keep a close eye on her until she gets the hang of potty training.

Don't give her the chance to go to the bathroom.

Tie her leash to your belt and consistenly take her outside, praising when she does her business.

Every accident is a setback!

my terrier mix was the same way. She's over a year old now and STILL Has problems with training. I'm sure it's our lack of following through with training her properly. I really just need to start all over and train her the right way.

There are some really good threads on here to get you started. I keep saying I'm going to start soon. I really need to. There's nothing worse than having a dog that won't listen and obey commands and use the bathroom outside 100% of the time.

We had to tear up all our carpeting in the living room and hallway because of Lola peeing everywhere. We need to tear it up in my daughter's room too but have been procrastinating.

I wanted so much to blame the dog for her problems.. that she was not able to be trained, that she wasn't a smart dog, or did the things she did out of spite. But in reality it was us. We were lazy when it came to her training. And as we all know... puppies don't train themselves.

I wish you luck with your pup. Hang in there and be consistent. Browse through some of the threads on training and I'm sure they will get you started in the right direction.

When ever she is loose in your house, you HAVE to watch her... do not take your eyes off of her for even a second. Do not give her the chance to go to the bathroom on the floor.
