A little over two weeks ago I was told about the Schindler Farm in Mexico, MO. A local news channel had done an investigative report and exposed a pet store for purchasing puppies from a local farm. The landlord kicked the pet store out of its lease.

The Schindler Farm decided to go out of the puppy mill business and was auctioning off more than 800 dogs. While I don't condone giving money to puppy mills, this was an exception to the rule. Rescues from all over the country traveled to MO to try and get as many dogs as they possibly could.

I documented some of this. You will not see any photos or video from the farm itself. We all signed waivers.

Anyway, if anyone is interested in seeing some of the dogs, my follow-up reports, etc, some of the links are below. I'll continue to post updates on my blog as I can.

Isn't the main problem that the state passed a law trying to restrict these puppy mills. Anyway, I'm sure I will end up fostering a few. I'm so glad they are out of business

I think they anticipated Prop B was going to pass, but the owner of the farm, the matriarch, is battling cancer. This, they say, was the reason they decided to shut it down. I don't think that was the reason. I believe they knew Prop B would pass, which would have limited them to 50 females. At one point, this farm had more than 2000 dogs. Absolutely sickening.

Now that Prop B has passed, some of these places are calling rescues and telling them they are releasing dogs. This was anticipated and I hope the rescues and shelters aren't going to be overwhelmed. I think the surrounding states should keep an eye on everything and lend a hand when needed. Let's all hope for the best.
