kay, so Maya and I are on a journey. A journey to get some weight on her.
Sizzle and I have set a goal of 50 pounds by the week before I resume school in the fall. I dont have the date, but she will get weighed the friday before I start classes again. If she hasnt reached her goal, then we will seek into medical tests to figure out why she has trouble keeping/gaining weight.
As of thursday (5/22/08) Maya weighed in at 41.8lbs. We have a mini goal of 42 by next Monday (6/2/08).

I figured I could start a journal/log of our progress!

Right now Maya eats 7 cups of Diamond puppy food a day. She was on Diamond Extreme Athlete, but I have to drive an hour to get that formula, and I couldnt get down there in time to get it before we ran out, so I got a different version of Diamond food that i can find in my town. So once the puppy food is gone, Maya will be going back on the Extreme Athlete Formula.
I also have started (As of today) feeding 3 cups of food, 3 times a day to make 9 cups of food. Tomorrow I will be adding Nutro Canned food as a suppliment. (Im guessing I might do half a can per day, but I dont know yet)

Also, tonight I made Satin Balls (grossest thing EVER!) and will be feeding three of those per day.
I have a high calorie liquid suppliment called DYNE that I can supplimet too, but Im going to hold off on that. If Maya doesnt meet the 42 pound weight goal by next Monday, I will also add the DYNE to the feeding regimine.

On to today's pictures

I know, I suck at stacking a dog (never done it before), this was just an attempt to get a good side body shot.

And, just to show you the grossness of the satin balls...
Sizzle says they smell "YUMMY"... uhmmm... think she has roses shoved in her nose or something becuase the smell made me gag!

I will update weekly :)

She's beautiful, as ever, but you're right.. too skinny. :( I really, really hope this works for her and that if it is a medical issue, it is easily and cheaply treated.

Saga needs to add 5 or 6 pounds before Sizzle and I are comfortable with her weight, so the sisters will do the weight gain challenge together.:D Saga is 43.3 now. So pretty much, first one to 50 wins eh? ;)

If Sizzle thinks the Satin Balls smell good, then they must.... we have the same "this dog food smells GOOD" nose.:lol-sign:

She is so pretty! Good luck with getting weight on her. I've made the satin balls in the past for skinny fosters and they worked really well for them.

Good Luck!!

I hope that everything you are trying works. Hopefully it isn't a medical issue.

I can't vouch for the smell of Satin balls, I have never had the privilege of making them. But I do agree with Hillside, if Sizzle says that they smell good, then I would probably like the smell of them as well.

I loooove the smell of Satin Balls... must be the oatmeal and the molasses, mixed with the Total Cereal. YUM. :D

Good luck, I hope this does the trick for her! If not, my buddy in MN gave you some good things to think about and test for. :)

Good luck with the weight! It can be frustrating. Every time I think I've got Tallulah approaching where she needs to be she takes a growing spurt :( I guess that's good, but, yeesh . . . she makes it look like I starve her.

ok, somebody's scale was wrong... im sure of it...

We weighed Maya on TWO different scales at the vets office today...
scale one read 51.7
Scale two red 52.3
They also looked back into her records and in March Maya was 49 pounds.

So I am thinking that the scale at petsmart may have been wrong. It read 41.8 pounds on thursday (5-22-08). There is no way she put on 10 pounds in less than a week.

Hold old is she again? I don't think she looks too thin those pictures.

We were having the same issue with Daisy- you could see all her ribs no matter how much we fed her- 4-5lbs of raw food per day and it wasn't working, yet Gunnar who is far more active and weighs 90lbs only needs half that. Now, at 18 months old, she's finally keeping some of the weight on. I was dismayed when after weighing 108 at the vet, less then a month later when we went in for a shot, she was down to 105, yet she looked better! I was sure she'd gained weight but she'd lost.

Good luck!

yes...Yes, becuase to me, she still looks a little thin. I think that the scale we weighed her on thursday might have been wrong. Yes, I do think she has gained weight since then, but not 10 pounds.

I think I might see if Sizzle has time to weigh Ilsa somewhere, becuase if there is a significant jump in Ilsa's weigh compared to the scale we used on thursday then that will confirm that Thursday's scale was wrong.

I dont know, i probably dont make much sense to anyone. lol
