I just had Athena in for Surgery for a Mast Cell Tumor that was diagnosed as a "block oil gland" by another vet. They said it was a type 2 tumor and they believe they got it all and it shouldn't be any more of a problem.

I feel so bad because she had it for a long time and the other vet assured me it was no problem and it was cancer all along.

For you Vets and Vet techs out there..... what do I have to look for in the future with this?

I'm just glad Athena is alright. It definitely pays to get a second opinion.

That's what I like about my clinic ....if I'm questioning something , they'll bring in another one of their vets . They always confer if there's a doubt . I like all 4 vets , but all have their specialties .

did the biopsy report come back with clean margins?

i'm glad you got it checked by a different vet. mast cell tumors are pretty common in bullies and can get really ugly. keep an eye both on that spot and on any other bumps that pop up. once a dog has had one mast cell tumor, they're more likely to get another.

Midnite had a mast cell tumor removed about two years ago. It was a Type 2 also. Her old vet told me it was a fatty tumor. Her new vet told me that any new lumps should be aspirated which is how we found out it was a mast cell.
