Quick question: Do I have to change the photo format before I can upload them? I was taking pictures in manual with the RAW format and when I uploaded the unedited ones, my laptop wouldn't open them. It opened the processed ones just fine. I was actually quite happy with most of them too, now that I finally figured out how to focus while in manual. :)

No, but you need software capable of executing the RAW filetype. Lightroom, Photoshop, Software that may have come with your camera... Many home laptops do not come equipped with such software.

I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.5 but it didn't work.. I'll look and see if there was a program that came with it, but I doubt it. I think I saw a few free programs yesterday so I'll try out one of those. Thanks! :)

Downloaded RawTherapee (which is pretty good for a free program!) and I have to say, I'm super pleased. My first 'official' time shooting completely manual and my first time editing NEF/RAW photos.

Adrienne - thank you SO much for the really concise description of what f-stop, ISO, and shutter speed settings really mean when it comes to the photos you take! That description plus your photo examples really helped clarify a few things I'd been wondering about! :D
Love this thread. I will be coming back when I have camera in hand! :)
