What a day I have had! I was driving to work this morning on a very busy street when I noticed the cars in front of me swerving and hitting their brakes. I was about to swerve even though I could not see yet what people were trying to avoid. At the very last minute as I was about to swerve I see this teeny tiny little baby kitten in the middle of the road!!!! I was so shocked and barely had time to react, if I swerved I would have ran it over. If I went straight it would have gone directly under me. I did not have enough time to come to a complete stop before the kitten so I stopped directly over the poor little thing. Thankfully I have a big SUV so there is plenty of clearance.

I immediatley turned my flashers on and got out but could not see the kitten anywhere under my truck. The people behind me said they saw it climb up my wheel and go up somewhere under my truck! I was soooo upset. I thought I was going to have a nervous breakdown!! No one would help me and cars were roaring by honking their horns. I was sure this little kitty was going to get killed somehow. I couldn't even move my truck because I didn't know where the kitten was and was afraid it could get crushed if in the wrong spot.

Traffic was backed up pretty good so I wasn't that afraid that someone was going to run into me so I crawled under the truck (dressed in a business dress suit  ) but could not see the kitten. Finally a old man stopped to ask if I needed help. I described what happened and he asked me if I was going to take the kitten with me if he found it. I assured him I would. He climbed under there, located the kitten and after a brief struggle got the kitten out!!! Hooray!!!! I could have kissed that man! He was my savior today!

It just really amazes me that people were swerving around this kitten BUT kept going!! It was obvious he was alive. He was hunched up into a little ball with these huge eyes looking up at me. I will never forget the look on his face! I also looked around the immediate area but did not see any other kittens. I wonder if someone dropped him off there. :(

He is about 3-4 weeks old and an orange tabby. I brought him right home and put him in a dog crate with soft food, water, and a litter box. Then I turned around and came to work. I have been thinking about him all day and can't wait to get home to see him. I talked my sister, she has talked off and on about getting a cat. I really hope she will take him once he is a little older and has some weight on him. :)

You did a great thing! Very lucky kitten! I'd do a little research online on raising kittens, because he might be a bit too young to take soft food without some guidance.

Update:
I named the kitten Cheddar. He is the sweetest little kitty! I just love him.

About a week after I found him I noticed something was wrong with his tail, it was very hard and turning black. I took him to the vet and he said there was some type of trauma and had to amputate his tail. :( While he was under I had him neutered, shots were given and he was dewormed.

Little Cheddar went to his new home on Monday and I have been crying every day since then. I am very actively involved in rescue so there are alot of animals that come and go in my house but every once in awhile there is one that is extra special. Cheddar was that one. I wanted to keep him so incredibly bad but realize that he will have a better home with someone that does not already have a ton of pets.

But still, no matter how great it makes me feel that he has a good home, I can't stop crying. :(
