The different posistions of sled dogs? Ive lived in Alaska all my life but have never had much interest in mushing, Could you explain wheel, point, and swing? Lead is self explanitory.

Thanks.

Alright you have your lead dog I know you know this one. Then comes the point dogs that come right behind the lead dog. Then the swing dogs are all that are inbetween the point and wheel dogs.

It's exactly the same as when you're driving a team of horses then! We have "Wheelers" and "Leaders". Now I understand completely!

The Point dogs help the Lead dogs with keeping and team in check and such. They are very important to the team. Swing dogs are all fast smart dogs good at following direction of musher and lead dog. They also even out weight put on each dog. The wheel dogs are the largest and strongest on the team they are closest to the sled.
