The dog pound is on a street right off ours. The dog catcher drives up and down our street 3xs a day yet it's amazing how many people let their dogs run loose. Today has been the worst yet. We played in the field for awhile, worked with Gracie on "come" (and she's getting it), work with Princess on some behaviour issues. I had noticed my sister was at home so we walked to her house.
She has this neighbor who for years had 2 labs. They always let these dogs run loose. The dogs wouldnt poop in their yards instead they walked up and down the street into everyone elses yards doing their dirty work. Finally one was hit by a car and died. I havent seen the other for awhile. Last time I seen it the dog was running free so I wonder if it got hit too. Anyway, as we was going to my sister's, I didnt have gracie on a leash, Gracie got in this neighbors yard and guess what, she pooped. I said "Oh no Gracie, you shouldnt do that but I am so proud of you anyway!" :) sorry. For years I have wanted to take a dog to poop in their yard.
Anyway, as we was leaving out from somewhere comes this little bitty little dog, barking and growling at us. I hurried and wrapped the leash totally around me so I'd have good control of Princess. Poor Gracie was so scared, I picked her up. My sister and I started talking about how hard it is to walk our dogs anymore with people letting their dogs run loose like this. She has a big boxer with more strength than her so because of the loose dog problems she cant walk her dog unless her husband walks with her. Well she said this yappy dog was a stray that the neighbor took in to find it a home. That's nice of them but dang, put it in the house or something! It really acted mean and if it were to get close to Princess and pick a fight with her I'm afraid that little thing would loose. Princess is 10xs that dogs size and Princess is only a medium sized dog. Just sickens me how stupid some people are. If that dog had gotten close enough to Princess and picked a fight, and Princess felt as if she had to fight back and hurt the dog it would have been just another example of how awful Chows are.

I used to have that problem when I walked Bear (GSD/Akita mix). There was a pair of Pekes around the corner who would run across the street to charge us every single night. They bit at Bear's ankles and yammered and yipped. I used to BEG him to give them a good scare, but he wouldn't even snarl at them until the night one of them bit my pants leg. He picked it up and slung it 10 feet away! He was very careful when he did it because it was able to run home screaming, lol! After that they'd just stand on their porch and make noise.

it is better around here lately..the two dogs that were running are now missing..i saw the lost sign on the pole at the end of the street..and Onyx is one week of not getting loose..Logan says they are double chaining her..don't know what that means but if it works great..glad your dog picked a great spot to eliminate..wish he would come over and do the same in the sharpeii's yard across the street....and my neighbors in front of me..i have had to pick their dogs waste up out of my yard all winter long.

Just add this one to the annoying loose dogs. I left the back door open while we was outside. Princess took off running and I heard her in the house barking. I went to see what's up and seen my neighbor from acrossed the street walking up the drive. She went straight for my window....Princess broke the screen out and was about to jump or fall. She said 2 dogs were running loose and got in our yard. Princess was barking and had her head pushed agaisnt the screen and it broke. She said the one dog acted like it might be mean and if Princess got out was very likely we'd had a dog fight. I'm so glad she seen it.
I feel bad for her because she was telling me she took her dog out walking and it was attacked by a dog and now her dog is showing signs of aggression. She's not sure what she's going to do. I know if she says it's bad it is. She is great with animals, she missed her calling she should have been a vet. She's always been the one I went to when I needed an opinion or had a problem....that is until I found all of you!
