Sorry to take this thread in another direction, but I've heard Pomeranians are a bit snappy (you know what I mean!!) - is that not right?!

i've had a pomeranian puppy, she was as sweet as candy, never snapped.. i do believe that chihuahua's are snappy and very jealous/overprotective of their owners.. i guess it just depends on the pup?

I think it depends on the pup + the breeding + the socialization. You get a poorly bred Chi or Pom or Yorkie and you have an owner that only wants a dog because it can fit in their purse and the owner thinks it is cute when the dog acts aggresive, then yes, the dog will snap.

the few chihuahua's i've seen.. most of them were from owners who did only put them in their purse, but didn't care for them as a pet.. just some sort of hip fashion..

i mean i'm not trying to be a hypocrite, i do to put my dogs in their own doggie purse, but i do not just treat them like they are some cool hip thing to do, put them in a purse.. as you can tell i love my pups very much. i do agree that it depends on the pup, socialization etc.. my pups aren't snappish at all..

this is why i think it is hard to judge a dog you haven't met..by the breed he is.
i have seen dauchsands sweet as clover and mean as sin
poodles with so much manners you feel like calling them sir and being on your best behavior..and poodles so dumb it hurts
yet to meet a great beagle..but that doesn't mean there aren't any..just means i haven't been around enough of them

i told this in another thread but having a litter and knowing them all grown up drove this home..no two are alike...Mary is a wall flower.and very well behaved
Garg her brother..an ox..overgrown puppy, a hard head
Sally..shy, low self esteem, good sense of humour.
nervous to teach
Tate the mom..low impact dog..liked to be lazy..liked
porches and hanging out with the grownups..
so i think breed temperment discriptions should be taken with a lot of salt. Ive met so
many by working at three different kennels..one a show circuit favorite spot that i don't rely on that much past instincts like herding or retrieving.
