Oh. We have had a major cold snap here, ice, frost everything, even wet snow flurries inland,(im in Fla-go figure)

How do you guys recommend me transporting mom and babies to the vet if it is freezing? I dont have a van where they can lay w/ mom for warmth. A warm towell outta the dryer in a clothes basket for babies?? Cover?? I plan on taking them immediatly after birth. She needs a shot to clean her out they say and stimulate milk.

I called one vet today to price mom and new puppy visit, they told me$62, then decided to tell me for each!!Each pup and mom, $62 times 5 pups and mom...I was apauled! I called the other vet, whom is I beleive alittle more high class if you will, serves the rich and famous on the island........He quoted me $32 for ALL the family, one fee, plus $20 for the shot.

How can a practice be run like that???wow.......

Hot water bottle and blankets for the pups. Laundry basket would be ok, as long as the holes are covered against the wind...rubbermaid container would probably be better if you have one.

Can't wait to see pics...I get excited everytime I see a new post from you!

Check with your vet... I never went right in but within 12 hours from last pup unless there was a chance of a dead pup not being whelped. I had a box that I put warm blankets from the dryer in, had the car heated and off we went. The Mom will worry about her crew and will try to get in with them, so I hope you have help. I did it alone once, so put the pups in the front with me, but it was hard to convince Mom all was well. My vet charged me for the visit and the shot , and checked out each pup for cleft palet etc. Don't go right in... Mom needs to relax and rest .

It is 6am, and last night I noticed a gob of clear stuff on her vulva, i gently spread it to check it, and it was definatly coming from inside, Looked like gel. Her temp at that time was 100,I kow it will go up, then down before she has her litter.

But this am, it is 99.2 again.

Weird??I was up all night worried, but-no cigar!

I feel like a nervous parent and I've never had children. Oh, I can't wait for all the puppies to arrive healthy and for mom to have a healthy delivery.

Yup, vet said it was the mucus plug. So, here we go! They said the mucus plug can actually come anywhere from 1 to 3 days before she actually has them, so not to worry, she sounds right on schedule.

Ill taker her temp at noon again..

Yep, I'd expect it's time to call your vet, make sure you have their emergency number, make last minute preparations to the whelping area, secure the area so it's private for her, have a good book nearby, and a bottle of good whisky if you can't stand the pressure.

;)

I'll be checking in frequently for updates. Let us know when she starts panting.

Small amount of discharge, temp still at 98.6.She has just gone through the house and collected every doggy toy she could find and brought them in her cage!!!Looks like she is packing!

She has refused food, maybe took 3 or 4 bites. She is voluntarily staying in her cage. If I sit near her, she tries to climb in my lap and gives me constant hugs(she learned how to hug, she puts her chin over our shoulder and waits for a kiss before moving, she learned this at 7 mo!) I think she's asking for help.

Ill let you know more later. If it 98.6 still, think it will be a long night???Maybe Id better take a nap?
