Looking into getting a new laptop since mine is about to explode... or turn into a fossil. Anywho. Looking for something good for photoediting/using adobe that will work quick. So a faster processor... yes? lol. And I want to spend $500 or less. No opposed to used or refurbs. And PC or Apple is fine with me, though I prefer Apple.

Only way I can see you getting a Macbook for under $500 is refurbed, Renee can you post the usual link for us.

What size screen are you looking for? Heavy photo editing I can assume 4Gb of memory, and a i5 chip at minimum. What about storage, hard drive size?

If you prefer Mac but cant afford a refurb, maybe a used Win Vista or 7 machine with 4Gb of memory or better with Ubuntu for an OS and using GIMP instead of Adobe PS.

Harddrive and storage space don't have to be crazy big, since I back most of my pictures up onto an
External. Not sure on screen size, average I guess.
What format are you shooting? Full? What editing program? You'll need a lot of speed and space if you shoot full format and edit with a professional program. Also you cannot do better than a Mac for media editing but you can't really cheap it out either.

I find my 17" works but bigger is always better for editing.

Try for refurbished though, you can strike gold.

I'm shooting with my rebel xSi (is it bad that after a year of photography I still can't tell/don't know what "format" I'm shooting?) Raw images edited using Adobe Bridge and Photoshop.

My current laptop is a 15 inch, I think, and that's fine, though I did love the big Macs at school. Wish I wasn't poor.
