im pretty sure there was already a post about this, but i just wanted to say its stupid to sell a dog like that as a purebred, whereas its a mix breed. i could breed a great dane with a shitzu, and call it danetzu or some crap..i dont get it. is it going to be a legal breed for dog shows n stuff????? im confused.

the ONLY reason to breed (an existing breed or create a new one) is if it serves a purpose that no other breed serves, or performs a task better than another breed. for instance (I hope no one does this) if you thought a german shepherd crossed with a border collie would be a better herder do to having the gsd coat rather than the long coat of the border collie, would not get tangled or packed full of burrs. cross a bloodhound with a siberian husky, the stamina of the husky with the nose of the bloodhound.
the labradoodle began in that manner. attempt at creating a retriever for people allergic to dogs. it failed, people were allergic to the cross breed as well. and the dumbest part is that the poodle originated as a water dog. so they could have just used the poodle as a retriever.

I agree that was the purpose....but it has been abused. And has not proven itself. I see all kinds of doodle mixes in the paper daily......they are not after the cause, but out for the $$ through back yard breeding. These normally are 1st breedings ....let's make money !!! Yes, someday these crosses may be accepted...but not now. I had a friend who got mix of 2 AKC dogs..... yes she called it whatever it was, but had him fixed. NEVER go back yard breeding !!! except for a good pup and have her/him fixed. !!!

i saw an article on them. The labradoodle was originally bred by the guide dogs association so that a woman with impared vision could own a dog which wouldnt trigger her allergies. The breeder was very careful and selective of when he bred this cross. And only one out of three of the pups passed the test. he had to find homes for the other two so he gave them the cute name "labradoodle"

and it caught on, now you have an excessive amnount of "breeders" breeding these dogs just to make a quick buck and be part of the ___oodle craze.
