Whiskey continues to get bigger and as he is getting bigger he is growing more and more fiesty. His new thing is to growl and hiss at the dogs if they come near him when he is playing with a milk tab or straw wrapper. Regular cat toys he doesn't care so much about but stuff that should be trash.... He gets really excited about. Is it normal kitten behavior to resource guard like this and is this something I can get him to stop? I'm definitely more of a dog person and a little clueless when it comes to behavior in cats/kittens and what is and isn't typical.

Also... He has decided he wants to chew on every cord in sight. I was deterring him with bitter apple and it worked for a little bit, but now he has decided he likes the taste of bitter apple. What else can I do to keep him from chewing cords?

And here are some recent photos of the punk...

I do not know much about cats but I do know there are often a lot of behavior issues that come along with kittens being away from mom and littermates too early. It seems way more extreme than with dogs and harder to overcome.

Inwould try clicker training with him if you haven't yet.

Heeeheee, I've had so many kitties my hubby sez the Rainbow Bridge will collapse when I get there from the weight of all the critters combined.

The pictures are adorable!!!!!!! First rule of cat ownership, don't worry about resource guarding or much of anything else you worry about with dogs. For the most part the cat is going to do what it wants and canines and humans will adjust accordingly. I feed Sophie in the downstairs bathroom with the door locked. Otherwise the cats stare her down in the kitchen and she slinks off in fear...them cats looovvve dog food! If I don't lock the bathroom door, little paws hook under the door trying to open it.

Cats are the dictators for life of the household. As long as you accept that, all will be well. But you do have to keep them safe...I would hide cords, duct tape them to walls-you can paint it over, baseboards, put them under carpets if possible. We had a border collie who liked the taste of the green apple spray so it doesn't always work.
