Do they have a seperate club or classes for young kids and their dogs?

Bandit knows the basics and my sister has shown an interest in dog handling, especially in agility. Bandit would be perfect as he is not a high drive dog, isn't super slow but not speedy and he's very forgiving. He's no superstar that's for sure but he's a good boy and tries his hardest for his handler. He listens well to my sister both off lead and on. They'll of course be goofing around in the yard at first but I thought it'd be fun for the both of them to join a club with kids her age (she's 10) so she can have the social side of it too but I have no idea where to start as I've only ever done it in the backyard.

Paris's (my sister) bestfriend also has an interest in it. She owns a 8 pound yorkie who just knowing the dog would LOVE agility. She is very handler orientated, fast and really responsive. Great little dog. So my mother and her friend's mother have left it up to me to dig up some info to see if we can get this kids into a club or classes.

There are several kids who train with my agility instructor. The rules are if you're under 16 your parent must be present at the classes, but they do pretty well for themselves.

What do you compete with?

Here (in AAC) they give us student rates at trials.

I know with some organizations in the US they are allowed to drop heights or something... I've never really paid attention since I only compete with AAC.

We've done CPE and they have a Junior classes. I believe its anyone under 18.

They run like everyone else, but get more time, and they have their own scoring category. For example, Level 1 could have 20 dogs, but they are scored between Regular, Veterans, Enthusiast, Special, and Juniors. LOL

The club I used to belong to (before they relocated out of state :( ) always loved having junior handlers, either belonging to the club or competing at our trials (NADAC, AKC, CPE). As was said, the dogs got to run at a lower height with more time (kinda like the Veterans) and our club always made sure all the kids got ribbons and/or squeaky plush toys for their dogs for participating.

My niece (soon to be 2) appears to be obsessed with dogs. :D Hopefully by the time she's old enough, I'll have Riley going well in agility and she can learn to handle him...

You mean for training right?

Try to see if you can find a local Dog 4-H club around her to get her started. There she'd be with other kids her age and get the chance to learn the basics of dog agility, obedience, and just training in general.

I personally never did 4-H. When I was 11 I started taking classes at the local agility club. The instructors were excited to see a junior handler interested in the sport and they were great :)

But if you're really looking for a "kids only" class, 4-H club is probably your best bet.
