Kenya has Hookworm and Giardia

she went to the vet today and she has hookworm/giardia, i got a dewormer and other meds and stuff but i was wondering if any1 had any experience with these illnesses?

she is heartworm neg, and no distemper and her cough is getting better so i just cant wait until shes 100% healthy

She'll be fine, don't worry! :)

I've never had to deal with them myself, but when I worked at a vet's clinic we had a few cases of giardia. And all the dogs were fine after they were done with their medications.

and heartworm neg is a very GOOD thing... treatment for that is expensive and hard on the dog.

they are not illnesses, they are parasites. dewormer will take care of them. the vast majority of puppies are born with worms and also the vast majority of dogs and cats will get some form of parasite in their lifetime. In fact, that goes for people too! :yikes:

Hookworms isn't a big deal. Just follow the directions to the 't' and you'll be fine.

Giardia can be a bit more stubborn but no big deal. Just keep lots of water available due to the diarrhea dehydration.


Edit: Oh by the by Giardia (and hookworms for that matter) is zoonotic. You can get it too, so don't go walking around barefoot outside til it's clear of his system and you've treated the yard.
