I met our local kennel club for the first time today. And let me say, I am just astounded. They struck me as a bunch of utter snobs. I surprised them with my knowledge of dogs, so they started chitchatting. It was horrible. They talked about how dog-unfriendly our city was, and sneered at how our city had "nothing but chihuahuas and pit bulls". One lady actually went on about how if she had her way, she would round up every single pit bull and put them all down. As she put it, "Pit bulls are bred only to kill. That's it. They're walking disasters. I would never let a child get near one." One lady asked what kind of dogs I had. I told her. She laughed, looked down her nose at me and said, "Oh, if they're not AKC, I don't really care." And then after this spewing of bull$*!+, they tried to convince me to join! They said that a dog lover like me would enjoy it. Needless to say, I'm not going to be supporting this kennel club in any way, shape or form. No donations, no fundraising, no attending shows. And to think...I was actually thinking about taking a handling class from them. Please tell me this is not the norm for a kennel club.
