Both Addie and Ham...........they aren't eating!!!! I can see sometimes..one or the other may not feel like it....but not only am I concerned for them...I'm throwing away ground turkey, veggies, fruit, and doggie food. Yesterday, neither dog took a single bite. NO..they are absolutely not eating anything else...anywhere.......they've been with me. Now, I ask you......is that even normal???? I've never seen dogs that didn't want to eat. For Heaven's sake, I'm only feeding them once a day................................I'm bummed. I can't help it, I can't stand when a living being doesn't eat anything. Am gonna try again in about a half hour. They MUST be hungry now, right????? It's been 2 days! They do not roam...no neighbors feeding them...they've been with me......so what is up with this? I've never seen a dog (let alone 'dogs' not eat) :( Do you ever experience this??

I think there's something wrong, when a dog is not eating "anything" is a sign that something is not going so well... I would take both to the vet to run tests or just to check them out, you can even just give a call and ask... a dog rejecting meat!!!! that's weird!!! well, for now just keep trying with small pieces of food, try giving them a favorite treat or food to see if they taste it... are they taking water??? if not, they must be dehidrating fast!!!! I don't want to scare you but the only day I saw this happened to a dog he got a virus and was really getting sick... so, my only advice is to ask the vet and then go from whatever he/she says...
Good luck!!!

Well, they both just ate! I put chicken breasts in this time...and figured if they rejected it, I had 2 sick dogs........but they did both eat. I'm used to Addie eating every other day.......she's always been that way. But, Ham HAS to eat..he's a big boy. He still isn't eating what the 'norm' says...but at least he ate his bowl full today. They are freaking me out when they don't eat....KIDS!

Debi - I know exactly what you mean. Rookie is 11 months old and is VERY finicky. He will eat real good one day and the next eat nothing. Although I do give him his greenies (that he loves!!). He has allergies so he has "special" food. That is probably why he doesn't eat every day. He would gobble that chicken breast up in a minute if he could eat it BUT he can't. Poor guy, he has to eat venison or duck. My vet tells me that when they get hungry enough...they'll eat. I usually end up hand feeding him. No...he isn't spoiled. Goodluck with your babies! Keep me informed. : )

I don't know if there is something going around the doggy world, Mary hasn't felt well for about a week. She started acting a little off at the same time i got this stupid (that is what Hyia calls it) stupid cold/virus. I am going to take her to the vet Monday if she hasn't improved...first she seemed to have bowel problems..then yesterday she tried to eat grass like crazy..her appetite hasn't left tho. Hope your pups feel better soon..and i pray that mary is ok too. when your dog is old everything is more worrysome.

You know, Debi, since they ate the chicken, it's entirely possible that they are messing with your head.

"Hmmm, if we don't eat this, Mom will go nuts and will start REALLY coming up with fancy dinners for us! Plus, she'll pay all sorts of attention to us."

Bimmer takes spells where he doesn't eat that much. He'll lay across the doorway and just dare Shiva and Kharma to try to get to his food. I've never had a dog so laissez faire about eating. And if he decides he wants a change he goes out and snags a groundhog or a wild rabbit. We're running out of groundhogs

It took awhile, but i put Victor's food down dry in his bowl right along with Mary's everyday. He would turn up his nose and i would put it back up on the counter only to offer it later, briefly, before big butt mary snuck in there and gobbled it up. I had already tried everything from broth to cheese on his food to get him to eat. He got to turning his nose up at everything..ever see a dog spit out a hotdog like it is nasty? I do not want to give him moist food because that is bad for the teeth. It took months, but now he eats it dry and quickly. Now if i do put a treat on his dinner,,it is my idea, and not his.

ROFL! Smkie, Victor's just a smart boy! He knows hotdogs are full of awful stuff. But they do taste good. Sometimes there's nothing quite like a hotdog. Have you ever tried the Hebrew Nationals? They're kosher, so you don't get all the "lips and gizzards" and they really do taste sooooo good. They're so good that all they need is a little mustard.

Hmmm . . . I didn't eat dinner and now I'm hungry. I think I'll go nuke one! :D

we hav4e a chiminea (the terra cotta fireplace in case i spelled it wrong) and in the summertime our big treat is to get some good brauts or a decent brand of hotdog for hyia, put them on the long forks and cook them to perfection. They taste best when cooked over wood! i will look for that type this summer...thanks!
