It snowed here, and Brady.....

LOVES it! It never snowed last year when he was smaller but it has this year. He is crazy about it. I can't even get him to come in. He is outside eating it off the step and eating the ice under it too (he loves ice). He looks so pretty out there in it with his furry white tail. He seemed so excited about it, and he had never even seen it before. Other dogs I have had have been freaked out by it the first time they saw it, but he ran right out. I just looked out and saw him licking the snow off of our patio furntiture. Silly boy.

Chloe, my Corgi also loves it. We had several feet last winter, and it was hysterical to watch her tunnel through the snow with those short little legs.LOL

I just took him for a walk in it. Probably not a very good idea since there is a lot of ice and he can be quite a bit stronger than me not to mention the fact that he gets in his mind where he wants to sniff and he just goes for it. I think I taught him a new command though - SLOW! And he would slow down when I said it so I was very proud of him. I did have to release his leash about 3 times so that I would not fall. We only went for a mile because I could not take how slow we had to go and how careful we had to be. It took forever. Well, how careful I had to be, he was loving it. I was going to take him to Jenny's to play with her in it, but Jenny and her owners had already left to go to Bristol for the weekend. Too bad, they would have had so much fun!

Snow... some of us hate it, and some of us love it. The same goes for our dogs
We got 16inches of snow, its been snowing non stop for 26hrs now! Lucky for me, sort of, Maddie loves it. She keeps signaling to me that she needs to go out, but when we get out there all she wants to do is play. She has to jump instead of walk because its over her head. At night I walk first and she hops from one footprint in the snow to the next. I had to shovel a path in the yard for them. Carly on the other hand is light enough to walk on top of it, especailly now that theres a thin layer of ice on top of it. Exept for this morning when she fell through and disapeared and I had to rescue her. I'm glad that I trained her to go on the pad now...
Which comes to my question...
Can anyone give me some hints or ideas on how to prevent or get rid of the ice balls that catch on both of my long haired dogs? There awfull bad this year

Hmmm . . . I wonder, if you can keep their heads turned away so that they don't inhale any, if you gave the fur a light coating of PAM? That's probably a really, really bad idea. lol

I'm hoping we get a good snow or two this year. I want to see what Kharma does. Bimmer loves it. I just have to watch him extra closely though because if it stays cold for awhile it brings the coyotes in closer. He just hates them, but he won't chase them out past the first ridge from the house - he knows they'll pack up on him. It gives me the willies though. I make it a point to always have two of the dogs out at a time after dark if one of them has to go out.

All that snow sounds like SO much fun! Lucy just loves snow, but some years we don't get any at all. Last winter we had a couple of days with about 12 inches... she just had a blast, but fell through the snow into our pond.. and that was a big <cold > surprise for her! Looking forward to seeing how Holly will like snow for the first time... hopefully soon!

I love to see a dog romp and play in the snow. My Addie LOVES it, she will run and dive into it. Ham's not the least bit impressed, but he does like to eat it...then he looks so funny with snow on his nose. I personally would be thrilled if we NEVER had it!!! We somehow missed the big snowstorm due to being on the edge of warmer air. Had enough last year to last me a lifetime! lol We get alot of snow compliments of Lake Erie, plus the usual bad snows from the south. EEEWWWWWWWWWWWW

we havent had any snow yet but i still want to know more about how a dog goes with snow. wouldnt they get cold and get sick or something? do you need to put any kinda clothes on the to go out and play in the snow? that goes with both long and short hairs. and bogolove, what kind of dog is brady?

all of your dogs seem to be having soo much fun in the snow! i wish i had roxy with me whem we have snow, if we ever do!

crazydog - No, Brady has a lot of fur and he loves the colder weather. He actually can get hot in warmer weather. He is a bigger dog. He is part lab/ and there is possibly some great pyr in him somewhere, though you can't be sure. Just guesses. A smaller dog with little fur may not like the snow as much, but I think even though some dogs are bred to work in it and love it (think Saint Bernard, Newfoundland, Bernese Mountain Dog) some dogs still love it even if they are not bred for it. Sometimes it just depends on the dog. I have had dogs that hated it, and now Brady will barely come back in the house. Of course now it is warming up a bit and turning more into sludge and he is not really as in to it as he was when it was freezing cold and snowy.

My newfie saw snow for the first time a couple of months ago and he loved it! He frolicked all day. And then he laid in it. He's hot a lot with all of that hair I think. They are so cute when they play in the snow.
