I am so mad right now!!!

My brother and his gf were over alittle bit ago and we were talking about how I dodged a bullet with the whole couch thing, and how lucky I was to get to keep all three dogs.

Then my brothers gf goes "I don't know, I think you should give him away" she says pointing at Sawyer sitting in front of her.

To which I replied "No never. As long as I can help it I will never rehomed Sawyer". And then she asked me why!

She generally does not like Sawyer. Really she doesent like Keiko either. Because they are big puppies and like to lick your leg or hand when they want your attention. Which this grosses her out. And the general excitement the dogs have when they visit. It just annoys her. Especially with Sawyer though honestly he has done alot better.

So I answered to her that the dogs are not throw away items to me. They are my "kids" and im not going to abandon them.

She didn't say anymore about it after that.

I just hate it. I used to always hear when Sawyer was a puppy that I shouldn't keep him because he was a Lab and I was mauled by two Labs. So I had family members sure he would turn on me. Others just knew how Labs mature and how they are tough to raise. But I knew what I was in for and never budged.

I hate people looking at Sawyer like he is the root of all evil or something. Yes he is a young active Lab. Yes he's going to be VERY excited to see company walk in the door. He won't jump on you but he is glued to your side for the first half hour. Yes he loves to give kisses. And SHOCKER SHOCKER when you initiate rough play with him, he's going to play rough with you! And no he's not gonna understand why your yelling at him when your sick of the game. You want to how or bark in his face? Well be prepared to be bopped in the face with a Lab skull.

He's not a bad dog. He is a really good smart dog who has the softest heart on the planet. And when people point at him and say "Problem child, must rehome" it just drives me insane.

Next time the gf irritates you look at your brother and point to his gf and say, "You know, isn't it time you gave this one away?"

I'm sorry though. When jack had his elbow dysplasia and needed surgery DH's coworkers told him, "You know, it would be cheaper to just buy her a new dog." Lots of people don't understand young labs. If the inn were not already currently full I'd offer to take Sawyer--I've fallen in love with him.:)

    LOL I really should!

And most people really don't understand young Labs. Thats why 99% of the ads on Craigslist are for 6 month-1 year old Labs. People don't understand what they are getting into.

Its also hard for alot of house guests to understand he is not excited like that 24/7. On a rainy day he can nap........erm recharge ;) all day.

Did you punch him one? I love Sawyer too. All of our labs have a special place in my heart.

Isn't this the brother and his gf that took on that little pup you recently found? Is she just gonna get rid of it when it gets big and excited? :/

They say that labs make fantastic 3 year old dogs--lol. it does break my heart how many adolescent labs there are out there that people are giving up. There was a temp at our work that had an 8 month old black lab she got from a pet store. She was ALWAYS complaining about the dog. He eats this, he chews that up, he tries to dig out of his crate, he jumps---well, the dog literally was let out to go potty and then brought back inside immediately an that was the ONLY exercise the dog go. No training, not walks, no romps, no fetch, nothing--and she wondered why the dog was frustrated. Then she was convinced that this all would magically be fixed when he was neutered. Right. It really was all I could do not to just offer her $20 or something to take the dog off her hands.

Awww, I love Sawyer! It sucks when people don't love dogs as much as we do..... they just don't understand.

It's so heartbreaking, that's EXACTLY what I've been seeing lately on our local craiglist..... just ad after ad for young labs :(

    :rofl1: I like your brother! :D

OK you guys--someday, when i win the lottery or save up enough cash, I am going to buy 10 acres with a nice little lake with a dock, and take in adolescent labs.

And you all are invited to visit and bring Chuck-its and tennis balls--lots and lots of tennis balls......

I also think I would need the biggest mud room on the planet......

Ugh sorry if I hijack this thread but people just get on my nerves!

Hannah is always considered the problem child and is always the one in trouble. She's 1.5 years old (GSD mix) my roommates dogs are 5 and 7 years old (Goldens). She is constantly getting compared to them which I believe is totally unfair!

Anyway my roommate's friend has been living on our couch for the last week or so which I'm not totally liking but whatever. Yesterday she sits on MY couch (I've lost MY couch in this whole deal which is really irking me) with the dinner that my roommate cooked for her and Hannah sits right in front of her. Rude I know and normally I would call Hannah off but I'm irked so I don't. She tells Hannah to go lay down some where and Hannah (the little smart a$$) lays right in front of her and stares her down. The girl has the nerve to very sarcastically turn around and say to me, "Those obedience classes would be a good idea. When do they start?" :nono: Don't say stuff about my kid! But instead of starting a fight I take Hannah and I go get myself some dinner. Come back with my take out Hannah looks at my food, I tell her to go lay down IN her crate and that's where she stayed while I ate. Funny thing, my roommates dogs came into the room and were begging.

If Hannah and another dog are playing and the playing gets rough its always, "Hannah knock it off he doesn't want to play!" I know it doesn't happen often but the other dogs do initiate the play sometimes. And if he didn't want to play anymore he would let her know because he has before.

Its just getting old. She's not perfect but I think for her age and her spaziness (that's a word I made up) she's not terrible. But next to my roommates dogs she looks like a demon even though they are not perfert.

With my family having owned both Goldens and Labs , I find Labs do take longer to " settle down " but they are wonderful dogs.

Sorry, MH, but I might have sat down next to my dog and stared at her while she ate right along with the dog :rofl1:

Of course, I have an advantage with Kharma -- not many people are willing to bitch at her or around her :D

Same exact thing here! People always compare Sawyer to Maggie May or Keiko. Alot of people point at Keiko and go "Look she's just 6 months and she's already a better dog". Sawyer sounds just like your Hannah still a non perfect puppy but he could be ALOT worse. I always threaten to go mute for a day and THEN they can see how bad he could be :p.

Sawyer's a sweetheart. She's the type who I'd just say f*** it to. Sounds like someone who doesn't understand dogs period- let alone lab pups.
I think your bro should give his gf away and buy a better one.
