I am not sure if I am more disapointed or saddened by such hatred. I feel sorry for those people, holding that much hate serves no purpose besides darkening ones own soul. I'm holding them in prayer.

Pft I was more angry about the casting for Peeta and Gale honestly. Peeta should have been built more like Gale's actor, he was described as stocky! That scrawny blonde was so not worthy of the Peeta role lol. Gale definitely did not have the look of someone who was underfed most of his life. Neither is Katniss for that matter. I'm not sure why Prim was made so small and frail looking but Kat was almost double her size with curves you don't get on a near starvation diet. *shrugs*

I was disappointed with the movie mostly because the cinematography made me nauseous with all the < 3second scene splicing. Not to mention the altering of some key points like how she got the Mockingjay pin. Also, random addition of Dist 11 riot? Pft.

Maybe it's a locational thing..
or because I go to a school in new england full of democrats.. lol but either way I have found my generation to be some of the most accepting, open minded age group

Then again, we all go through our phases in high school of stupidity, but even then, it was just STUPID not racist or cruel.

But in college, then 20+ year olds I know, it is basically a GIVEN that you are open minded to all races, religions, sexual orientations etc..
I have also found this. I feel so lucky to be in my generation because race nor sexual orientation just doesn't seem to matter to the vast majority of teens and young adults I meet.

I also wonder if your region is bad for it because I definitely do not think it is a 'generation' thing.

Not gonna lie? I didn't really get a realistic view of racism until I moved to Mexico, where blonde white girls are not only the minority, but are pretty openly seen as villainous man-eating sluts.
Wasnt going to post in this thread but I have met a born Naturalized Citizen of Mexico of Mexican Citizen parents that had blond hair and blue eyes.
She had the fair skin of her mother and her sister she shared parents with looked like the stereotypical Mesican.

Black people where pissed off to find out Darth Vadar was a frail white man.

Would I be racist if I had been upset if they had portrayed Batman, Superman, or the Fantastic 4 as black? For the record I would have been. Halle Berry as Catwoman, that was just plain hot.

I saw the Harry Potter movies before I started reading the books,so that Radciff fellow fit very well for me.

The racism is not regional , its popular culture. At least in America I blame the Rap culture, in Mesico I blame the drug culture. I have no idea why the Euros would hate the blacks unless they identify the blacks with the Muslims.

Enough of my sick tired rambling as Im not feeling well.

Human stupidity knows no bounds.

I don't know why people cannot look past color. I was not raised with racist parents, but I also wasn't raised with parents who constantly lectured me on how people have different colored skin but they're all the same...so on, so forth. I'm ever so thankful that my parents referred to people by their names, and taught us to look at a person's character (what's on the inside is what counts). For example, I didn't have parents who didn't like the black girl on my first soccer team, but neither did the go off on some PC tangent about how "that's Theresa and Theresa's black, but she's just the same as everyone else...we're all people...". My parents said, "That's Theresa, and that's Ashley, and that's Melanie, etc." You get the picture.

I was raised to associate a face with a name. Skin color was just what it was, just like hair color and eye color were just what they were.

With that said, parents need to step up and do a better job with their children. Period. And I know that if I saw my child writing comments like those mentioned, he would find himself doing more community service than he thought possible.

As for me, I loved the picture of "Rue". She looked very similar to what I inferred her to look like.

I always imagined Rue as being more Hispanic than black, but it certainly didn't bother me. I'm not sure I really imagined Thresh as being any particular race. I think I always imagined Cinna as black or perhaps South Asian.

I will say the decision to make Thresh, Rue, and much of District 11 black, especially considering what District 11 does, added a racial undertone to the story that wasn't there in the novel. I found that interesting, but not offensive (you see black people in the Capitol too, and not only Cinna, so the director didn't decide that ALL black people were from District 11 and thus virtually slaves). I believe you see a black person in District 12 too . . . although many of the extras there seem to have been cast to look like people of Scotch-Irish decent from Appalachia . . which of course, they are.

All this proves is that there are plenty of bigots in the world . . . bigots, I would note, that with the themes of the books, are TOTALLY immune to irony . . . I suggest pointing at them and laughing.

Edit: It should also be noted that considering where District 11 is supposed to be, many people there being black actually makes perfect sense.

Um, no. I wasn't surprised. People use pretty awful grammar. And not to stereotype or anything, but in general the more open minded people on Tumblr use better grammar, then the one's who are racist or homophobic or whatever. It's just a trend I noticed. I'm saying this is a hard rule, 'cause I don't like to generalize. Well, I kinda do, but whatever.

Anyway, I think Josh was picked for Peeta's role because he IS Peeta. In every way. He basically barely had to act to portray his character. I haven't seen the movie yet, unfortunately, but I've seen enough clips, and enough gif's and interviews. He was pretty much perfect for his role.

I'm a little biased though, because I've been around the fandom so much that if you say anything bad about it I will bite your head off. So no offense or anything.

Gotta agree here.

I love the cast.. I think whoever chose them did an AMAZING job!

There was a reviewer who actually called Jennifer Lawrence fat.. EXCUSE ME!? lol if she is fat than I am a beached whale!
I think it's nice to have a healthy looking girl playing the role and totally understand why they couldn't use a stick thin sickly looking actress A) there are young teens watching this movie.. no need to once again GLORIFY the stick thin and B) With all the stunts etc.. anybody training for that roll would've bulked up anyway and C) She's a woman..she's got boobs. it happens lol

I think the movie was INCREDIBLE :D and they did a very very good job :)

I think these kinds of articles portray the Hunger games fandom in the worst possible light.. for the most part, from what I've seen.. the fandom is very very happy with the film

I also pictured Rue more from Native American descent, but after seeing her, she IS Rue and captures what I imagined her to be perfectly.

I also love the capitol castings and OMG Woody Harrelson is actually who I imagined reading the books. I was however, terribly mad about Gale and Peeta. No offense, but they look Soooo young and wimpy (Justin Bieberish, lol). But I understand the main audience they are directed to, so yeah... I'll just replace them with Gerald Butler and Ryan Gosling in my mind LOL

I was also extremely impressed with the casting, particularly of the minor characters. There were a bunch of characters where I thought: Not how I imagined him/her, but spot on.

And speaking of the girl who played Rue . . . my, she was adorable. Perfect choice since they were trying to be heartbreaking . . .

Edit: The two male leads were perhaps a little too pretty . . . but really, I liked the fact they looked young. They ALL looked young. They all looked like teenagers . . .which they are supposed to be. That was actually something I liked . . . regardless of the actual age of the actors, they cast people who looked like kids, not people who look like they are in their 20's pretending to be kids. I think that's actually really important in this film: one reason is so poignant and horrifying is that the tributes are still . . . children. Even the older ones (16, 17, 18) are so very young. Even the Career tributes . . . are really just children (see Kato's speech at the end).

Quick question: Is Peeta really that much shorter than Katniss in the movie? Or is the height difference between the actors created due to high heels while they are out and about in real life.

Somehow, I never pictured Katniss having to be the one to bend down and hug/kiss Peeta. lol

I haven't seen the movie (yet) but have watched the trailer and I have to agree. Gale isn't so bad but Peeta is....meh. I pictured him more solid I guess. Hope you don't mind if I use your replacements LOL.
