Well that's true, but generally dogs and cats are predators/carnivores and not prey animals.

Any animal can BECOME a prey animal though. You just have to have a predator willing and hungry enough to go after them. Humans are prey animals, if you want to put it like that.
Very few animals aren't prey. Those being grizzly bears and the like. And even they cannibalize each other in some circumstances, so it doesn't hold true.

Regardless, as a snake person, I would not use feeders that had been medicated at any point in their lives for my personal or foster animals. I also wouldn't use an animal that had been a pet, out of respect. Also, I don't know where on earth some people get their feeder rodents from but I have bought, in person, from very large breeding operations (think 10,000+ rats and mice in a building) and it was VERY clean, smelled very clean, and there were no tumorous sickly rodents. Even among the geriatric jumbo rats (which were needed for the foster ball pythons, so I saw quite a few of them). If animals in an operation that size got stressed to the point where respiratory issues manifested, it would wipe them out and ruin the entire operation so I don't buy that argument that feeder rodents are sickly and gross anyway, because in my experience, that is not true.

There are probably some less responsible snake owners out there that would jump at the chance for free snake food if Bre offered. I don't see that as a humane option here, for the snakes or rats, and I don't blame her for rejecting it, for both logical and emotional reasons.

Yes, SevenSins was banned. Not for anything he said to the OP. He was told to knock it off and he didn't and gave his little "parting shot", which it turns out, it was.

Call the length excessive or not. It doesn't matter. Just because we've let a lot of things go in the past doesn't mean it will continue. It's one of the forum rules. Treat each other with respect. And it also says if you are contacted by a moderator about an issue, treat them with respect.

There is no "divide and conquer" here. We discussed it among the moderators and everyone was in agreement that a ban was in order. So it's done.
I totally agree with the mods decision on this-the dude had it coming.

Have you listed your camera for sale yet? I will not donate money to someone who has resources they can liquidate to help themselves first.

If my animals needed vet care and I was broke, first thing I would do, liquidate everything until there was nothing mg left but basic needs stuff.

I do think this situation can be considered a hoarding case. Way too many animals involved.

As to the SS banning. I find it ridiculous. Especially after the prostitution thread where things were way out of line for a forum.

You know? There are plenty of other forums if people don't like this one..... The constant bitchfest about how it's run is getting yawn.

Enough asshattery. Everyone knows how you feel, you've made that clear, time to drop it.
You warned Seven with THIS?? in public not in PM, and when he restated something he'd already said, you considered this Snarking back at you???? Seriously....

I'm fairly certain if someone is doing something Ban worthy it should be taken up by a moderator in PM. If someone had made the previously stated quote to me in open forum, I would never have seen that as a warning from a mod, or honestly as anything noteworthy, I in fact skimmed right past that post when trying to find said warning that everyone was talking about.

Most of the time when there is bickering and picking going on you all manage to work it out among yourselves with only a nudge here and there from the moderators.

And that’s as it should be - here.

There are plenty of places on the internet where the moderators keep viewpoints within a narrow range and set circumscribed boundaries for posting, and those places are fine, if you’re happy to hand over your rights to think and express yourself when you have a differing opinion, point of view, set of experiences so that no one gets their toes stepped on or their nose out of joint or has to be exposed to anyone else’s take on a subject. It’s also a good way to run things so that no one learns anything from anyone else, or is forced to examine their own set of opinions and beliefs or even has to stretch a tad to express themselves more clearly. Great places for the self-absorbed, the self-important to define and the rest to bleat in unison.

But that’s just not us.

Sure, it’s a pain in the ass to moderate some of the prize fights here. But it’s rare - if ever - that at least some of the participants don’t come out a little smarter, a little more thoughtful, a little more understanding and a little better as people when the final bell rings.

And when all is said and done, and one of us is falling apart, often it's the person who has been in the ring with that one and gone at it the hardest is one of the first to give a cyber-hug and a cyber-shoulder.

Now, tell me, what could be wrong with that?
Guess this doesn't apply to ALL members, only the favored ones.

This isn't a free country run by angels who owe anyone anything. It's a dog internet forum, and the mods can ban who they like as they like. With no explanation as far as I'm concerned, its up to them...

I'm pretty **** sure I've been close to being banned a number of times. I didn't spit my dummy out and cry boohoo and get my internet buddies to have a hissy fit.

People left this forum before to set their own up. Just a thought...

There's plenty of people here who don't mind how its run, even if they don't always see eye to eye.with everyone.

It's getting to the point no one will post because of all the bitching and general patting of backs, and NOT from the mods, theyre too busy banning spammers to even post.

This isn't the first time chaz had a bunch of people moaning about it, it won't be the last. Life goes on, people move on, others stay.

Don't like it? Move on!

*cough* *cough* Dang... you bitch about people bitching a lot...

Seriously, OP, I can provide transport in the portland, Oregon area if you make it this far. As a life long (until the last 2 years) small animal lover I can completely sympathize how things can get ugly fast, I do however truly worry about the animals well being if they're so many and so sickly and you're just one person needing to rotate for attention and pinch pennies for feed.

I'd love to help take some off your hands but we're just not set up for them anymore. :/

I've not really participated in this thread because I really don't know anything about rats to help out but on the topic of a member being banned I agree with the above.

people act like it's an attack of civil rights or something. Temporary ban on a privately run internet forum. If this is the worst thing we have to complain about ... be happy.

I would never be a mod. What a thankless job. "someones being a jerk... do something about it Mods" "OMG you did something about it? you guys suck... I hate you... WORST DAY EVER IN LIFE" "why is there so much spam... why are the mods never around when you want them... why aren't they doing this... why are they doing this....ad nauseum" You know the mods aren't here to be our whipping boys right? They have lives, families, jobs and then they have to come here and wipe our noses and pat our bottoms and then we spit in their face.

SS was banned. It is what it is. Tomorrow no one will care again and it will be forgotten, maybe a few might leave in protest but at the end of the day the sun will set, tomorrow it will rise and things will be just as they were before.

Holy moly you moved to Oregon? Huge change from Las Vegas, LOL! That's not far at all...I could meet you in Portland or Vancouver (Portland is 220 miles from me, that's not too bad, my Grandpa is at the halfway point and I have been wanting to pay him a visit anyways) if rescues in OR have some space. If you decide you want a pair... you just let me know. ;) When I get home today I'll contact some rescues in Oregon, and the states around WA and see if anybody has room, and then perhaps we could get a train organized for the ratties. I'm going to post on the forums a bit more and the Rat List FB group based in WA & OR and we'll see what they have to say about taking some in. I'll keep you updated. :)

lol yup, we just moved in Nov. Keep us updated, I'll be around. I will try posting on my FB as well but most of my friends are still in Vegas so I'm not sure how helpful that will be yet.

Depending on the timing, I could possibly meet someone on the way to Oregon, or maybe pick up in the Seattle area and do a leg of transport as well. My best friend lives in Portland and I haven't been down to visit in a while.

North Star Rescue in Diablo, CA can take 20 rats! She can meet in Napa or Ukiah (closest to WA). Think we could get a train organized?? :)

Thanks so much for your kind words, everyone.

That would be amazing. Thank you so much.

Today I started crying because it's gets so overwhelming sometimes - especially when you find something wrong and you know another extremely expensive exotic vet appt. is coming next. I love the animals, and I wouldn't trade them or their wellbeing for the world - it just gets hard since it's only me and I go to school full time. So between school, work (not anymore), and all of the animals, it gets a little tough sometimes.

That's a great idea! I don't think the zoos around here would have any interest in the rats though and that's what I need help with at the moment. Although maybe that could be an option for the turtles. I'm a little too attached to the beardies though LOL, and have no issues affording their care because I have an ample supply of Powersun UV bulbs and ceramic heat bulbs thanks to my Sulcata Tortoise, and the pet store ladies here give me free crickets and worms :p And I always have lettuce, kale, squash, etc. on hand because the Sulcata is technically my dad's, so he gives me money to buy veggies for him, and there's plenty to go around of course. As far as the sugar gliders go...they are really mean LOL...both bite and crab anytime a finger goes near them, they were intended to be pets for children, who mishandled them when they did handle them...which was very little... and extremely emaciated, lack of proper nutrition and having hypoglycemic seizures...I've been bitten by the two sugar gliders WAY more than I've been bitten by rats in my life time, which is a little nuts...

How come you haven't got one?! They are so cool...sooo different than any other reptile because they are so personable. People don't understand until they have one - they are just awesome. Anyway, I wouldn't be able to come up your way until summer time, because I have school and no money what so ever right now...but if you're still looking for a beardie then, let me know and I'll grab my passport and head up there. :)
Here's some beardie pictures to worsen your itch.

I fixed it you should be able to see them now! :)
OMG your beardie is so CUTE!!! I love beardies!!! :D a friend of mine has one & I fell in love with them *sigh* one day I hope to own one.
