And again, we are dealing with 40+ rats, not to mention a myriad of other animals that Bre is finding daily care difficult for. Not a single animal, or even 2 or 3.
No, the other animals are just fine. I don't find caring for them difficult at all. The rats are where the struggle lies..

Ok so you make a thread, saying you need help, turn down all the ideas, other than transport across the country. So you just want people to give you money?

I would absolutely suggest a humane society for someone who sounds on the brink of broke and unable to get their dog into a rescue. That is an opportunity for a chance, what is wrong with that?

Absolutely. Otherwise you wouldn't be here asking for money/help/ideas.
Yeah. I guess so. I've just never thought of it that way, like I'm suffering from this. But I guess I am. I can relate a little too much to that article. Although they aren't being kept in dwindling conditions. I just work my ass off until I cry at keeping the conditions good.

Yes, rat-rat aggression. And no, I don't agree with that at all. Would you euth. a pit because it's aggressive with other dogs? I mean come on. These rats are bomb proof with people - just too dominant with other rats...
If I had a very large rescue operation, such as a puppy mill or dogfighting bust, which I could not afford, and some of the dogs needed medical care, yes. I would euthanize the dogs who were aggressive with other dogs FIRST, not because I think DA dogs should be euthanized period, but because if I can't reasonable care for and quickly find homes for them, I'm going to need to euthanize some of them, and I'm going to choose to euthanize the dogs that are less likely to be adopted and succeed in a pet home.

LOL. Because I turn down euthanasia and them being kept in the wrong conditions that I spent $500 treating them for in the first place...I'm turning down all of the ideas and just want money.

Yes, yes, right on the ball!

Yes, coming from someone who has done pit bull rescue for years. I would absolutely put down a pit bull that had no where to go except a kennel with minimal interaction.

Rats need interaction and if you need to rotate them one at a time you're cheating them on time.

You could list them at this rescue; they allow courtesy listings. I would take a female or two, but I am pretty sure we don't live anywhere near each other.

I would email every rat/rodent rescue you can find, and see if they are willing to help with transport, supplies, anything, even if they are far away. There might be more that allow courtesy listings, but I have to get off soon and Star's was the first one I found.

Volunteering at one of the highest-euthansia rate ACCs in the country...seeing a pit bull put down because it's DA, when it's the sweetest thing with people, is HORRIBLE.

But I know, that the time and energy and money spent on rehoming and caring for those dogs, could find homes for three or four less DA dogs. And when it comes down to it, I'd rather see 4/5 dogs get better care and succeed in a home as quickly as possible and be replaced with 4 more dogs in need, if it means putting down #5, than putting time and energy into one DA dog and giving the others mediocre care and taking longer to get adopted.

Bre, just first off ((tons of hugs)). The job market is really horrible here right now, I'm sorry you lost yours.

Next, I'll keep an eye out for rat rescue stuff locally.

Have you tried posting about some of the individual rats that are healthy enough to be adopted out on Craigslist? It'll probably take some heavy screening of adopters, but you might be able to move a few of the babies at least to good forever homes that way.

Also, if you need help placing the herps the Pacific Northwest Herpetological Society does reptile and amphibian rescue. Thank you so much for rescuing that beardie by the way. It is most certainly NOT a waste of time and resources helping him. My old man iguana was a rescue case that came in at 5 years old with severe MBD, stage 1 renal failure, severe malnutrition and dehydration, a broken pelvis, a broken femur, deformed jaws, and a broken neck flap bone. He made a complete turn around, full on recovery and went on to live to live many happy, healthy years until 17 years old when the kidney disease progressed beyond stage 1 and he had to be put down. So good on you.

The herp society is experiencing a major website outage right now, so here's their facebook page.

I really think you need to rehome or possibly euthanize some of them. That is a lot of cages and animals to deal with and keep in a home. I know your intentions were good but sometimes good intentions can leave people in situations that are over their head.

Also, I just posted on my facebook to see if any of my local friends are rat enthusiasts that might be interested in adopting.

This is not an uncommon situation for animal lovers. If it is possible we would love to care for each and every stray. Much as I would love to I cannot help this time with donations. Good luck though to you and to the animals. I hope you can find loving homes for them soon.

Honestly... it makes me sad that SS was banned. Sure, he's made a few douchey comments to me. But he's real, and well informed, and he's A DUDE! I can't imagine how you live in this world and function still, if SS's comments are that offensive to you. Guys are generally bunt and crude. My boyfriend would be banned instantly.

As far as my opinion regarding the situation at hand... I've known OP on this forum and another for years. She has been caught telling ridiculous lies, lying about owning dogs, going through dozens of dogs, and I generally don't believe a word that she says due to that long history of lies. If this story is true, I hope that she can find a proper rescue to take those animals in, get a job and maybe help foster a few? This just isn't doable for one person who is unemployed and can't find any adopters.
I work in a factory where there are more men than women employed, and behavior like SevenSins is not tolerated. People behave like that, they are written up for it. Douchy comments do not make someone "real.". It just makes them a douche.

The coyotes in our area disagree with that statement....
Well that's true, but generally dogs and cats are predators/carnivores and not prey animals.

Any animal can BECOME a prey animal though. You just have to have a predator willing and hungry enough to go after them. Humans are prey animals, if you want to put it like that.
