I'm not sure if this is the right place for this since this definitely is a dog-based forum, but everywhere else I have tried to register has had errors, so please somebody help me.
I have 4 cats, 3 males and 1 female, all have been fixed. They all got along well until about a week ago, the female has started hissing and growling at one of our male cats for no reason. Whenever he is in the same room as her she won't stop growling. My parents are beginning to get really really annoyed with this, does anybody know why she is doing this or how to get her to stop? There was no changes between them, no changes in the house, it just randomly happened. If anyone has any information or could point me in the right direction that would be greatly appreciated, thankyou.

I've never experienced any issues like you've described, so I don't really have any ideas for you. There are a few other people around here that do know their cat stuff, but you will get a more prompt answer if you keep looking for a cat-specific forum. I'll PM you a couple suggestions for forums to try. :)

And just out of curiousity, do you have any dogs?

How old are the two cats having the issues? Are there any loose cats that regularly go into your yard? Is there any "hierarchy" between the cats, does someone seem to be more in charge than the rest usually? Did the male ever pick on the female? One of them may be ill, when is the last time they went to the vet's?

I know this is a dog forum, I explained in my post that I tried cat forums but all of the registrations had errors in them.
There is a slight hierarchy, the male she is fighting with seems to be the alpha male. There is no stray cats, a couple dogs but we haven't seen them lately. The male never picked on the female, they normally got along perfectly. And the male is a couple years old, the female maybe 2 year old.

It seems a lot of cats hit maturity at 2. Does she only hiss and growl or does she slap him/charge him/fight him? Have either of them changed in any other way recently?

She tried to slap him once that I have seen, besides for that 1 time it is purely hissing and growling. She curls up into a tiny flat ball when she does it. The male has been seeming to try to get her into trouble. He inches up as close as he can to her while she is hissing, she just recedes.
By the way my cats names are Zora(female) and Sampson (male), this way I don't have to call them by there gender anymore.
And thankyou so much for the help even though I know this is a dog forum.

hmmm, I was going to say she was trying to battle for status but it does not sound like that at all, it sounds like she's fearful. OK, sorry so many questions but when she flips out on Sampson are her ears flat to her head, are her whiskers forward or against her face and are her pupils really big or really small? What is her tail doing( (is is flailing about, does it puff up etc.). And does she like chicken? ;) (for training purposes), does she play with toys easily? (redirecting possibilities). Cats can be so picky with each other for no reason, it makes things difficult. And it's no problem that this is not a cat forum, I don't know why people were upset about it, lots of people join forums when they have a problem they need help with. Hopefully I can give you some ideas to try.

Try completely separating them and act like they are two brand new cats meeting for the first time. Leave them apart from each other for a few days, feed them on either sides of the door so they can smell each other. Also any time you see one cat sleeping on a blanket or towel or something, put it into the room that the other cat is in.

Has the male been to the vet lately? Cats are great at hiding any pain they might be feeling. When cats are sick their smell changes and the other cats don't recognize him the same anymore. I would have the male vet checked. If everything is clear, then buy a Feliway plug in or spray and use it.

Wow I didn't know that about the scent changing. I will talk to my parents about treating them like new cats.

As for your questions:
Her ears are normally flat, her tail flicks back and forth, her eyes I think are normally big, She loves chicken, only thing she plays with like a toy is our steps or a stool...
And I do not mind all the questions, I am just upset about my cats.
I joined this forum based on the fact that it was 3:30am and Zora had just woken me up, I searched for cat forums but all of them had random errors. So I saw this one and saw it was 'Dog and Pet' so I hoped it wouldn't be an issue... I am so incredibly desperate to get them liking eachother again.

I'm sorry! I hope I didn't come across as rude. :( I just didn't have any advice and tried to suggest a couple other places to look. Didn't know how else to help out. I'm glad the other folks here have had more ideas than I do!

Best of luck! :)

Thankyou so much for everyone's help. We have seperated the cats and exchanged the clothing and blankets like suggested. They stand on the opposite side of the door and don't have problems with eachother.
