I am a pet sitter, and I have to put a cat down tomorrow because my client is so upset. She has had this cat for 15 years and can't deal with it. It breaks my heart for her and for "Daniel." He is not doing well at all and prob. needs to be put to sleep. I have been on the phone with her 3 times tonight.... Although I am very saddened, I feel honored that she wants me to be with him in his last few minutes, because she can't be there. I will hold him, love him, and do everything I can to bring him over the rainbow bridge. I know a couple of poems to send, but if anyone else wants to share one, please do, I want to leave her "something." My heart is breaking with hers. Just so everyone knows, this woman is awesome, the best vet care and everything, her baby is just at death's door.....

Aww, that's so sad. It's always hard to let them go, and it's a big thing you're doing to help her.

Thanks for the comfort! I reread my post and Daniel is 18, not 15 so that's 3 years longer she has been with him. I go on Saturday while she is gone and she is taking the following 2 days off to mourn. She loves him so much, but she would have a melt down if she had to be there and witness it. Another sitter recommended that I clip a piece of fur for her. I also have a kit that will make foot prints of pets that hardens and is in a frame. I might do that too. She has no family here and will be heart broken (as we all would in her situation) for a long time. 18 years, wow, that's a long time.....

My hubby had to put his first cat down 4 years ago and was heartbroken. He had "fat cat" cremated and is now in our den. His ashes are in a creatine jar (hubby is into weight lifting, etc.) so this was appropriate at the time. The creatine jar is in a nice box which is displayed. He couldn't like of not having him with us forever.

You're a good person for what you're doing.
