doc: they CANNOT legally make an apointment while your under the effects of sedation, if you didnt agree to it before the sedation OR make the apointment after you are under NO legal obligation to keep that apointment!
that is insane, truth be told id be a little leery of going back to that dentist.

obviously they use different sedation drugs than mine does, but the fact that they allowed you to set an apointment WHILE still under the effects of sedation is VERY unethical! legally you cant sighn anything, set dates that might require a fee to cancel they cant even CHARGE you that day! its supposed to be paid for befor or after unless there is a presighned quote, if they have to do any extra work they cannot charge you for that work untill after discussing it with you once you have "sobered"

i wanted to make sure to add here..

ive had sedation dentistry multiple times...and its been WONDERFULL...i wouldnt suggest it for someone whos just "afraid"
i have severe anxiety attacks, heck i freeked out at the initial exam with no touching and no work, just form the SMELL of being in a dentist.
my sedation dentistry has never given me those kind of problems, i was awake through the surgery but not realy "with it" i knew what was going on at the time but just didnt care, and afterwards i dont remember anythign beyond the fact that i was awake and didnt care, i slept all the way home (or at least i assume i did because i didnt know i was home untill i was getting through the door...i lay on the couch and fell asleep almost imediatly, woke up 2 hours later to tell my mum i was hungry and go bathroom, i felt tired and a little dizzy/woozy and unsteady on my feet but i knew what i was doing, then back on the couch, sleep for about couple of hours, woke up ATE (the first time was a wisdom tooth and a root canal and i was fine to eat that night!) then whent straight to bed.

this has pretty much been the routein EVERY time ive had sedation.

there are REASONS there supposed to give you an info sheet that must be sighned by yourself and usually a second person who will be "looking after you" afterwards, it explains possible side effects and explains no stairs, no cooking, no driving ect, this stuff realy icks butt in terms of whiping your brain...

but honestly i, and many others have NEVER had those kind of effects...im wondering if this dentist uses a different brand or type or something...id get the name of the drug and look it up online and tell your dentist the sever and UNUSUAL effect it had on you...

honestly i do NOT think your reaction is normal for sedation dentistry, goofy yes, but not that out of it that long after surgery.

i also realy do feel sedation dentistry (like anesthesia) should be an only if absolutly nessicary cases...
if you just "dont like needles" or "hate the sound of the drill" use gas if your dentist has it to ease you (nitrous)
sedation should be used in extreem anxiety cases only, there are possible side effects, the medications used are sedatives with possible halluenagin properties no matter what type is used, and as you see from this post, some people have very umpleasent reactions.

i only suggest sedation to people with EXTREEM anxiety...(like me, ive been known to have sever panic attacks at the meer thought of going to the dentist and since i have some heart issues AND am epileptic that kind of stress is best avoided...i avoided the dentist (yes even the WORD) for 8 yrs! i cant even watch dentists on tv without my hear racing and me feeling sick!...for me sedation has meant i can actually go...i dont mind dealing with feeling a little spacey and dozey for a few hours afterwards...

Foxy - I couldn't agree more and I have heard nothing but good things about other peoples experiences with sedation dentistry, that's exactly why I chose to go with it. I still don't feel well, still foggy and just feel plain yucky, but I know that what happened to me is unusual. I don't know how I'm going to get through the next appointment, my fear is over the top and totally beyond my control...

I have to add that my mom and Mike were with me (holding me up) when the appointment was made and I'm sure that's why the receptionist called me the next day. I do have to have this temporary bridge removed and the permanent one put on so I really do have to go back.
I may or may not to have freezing but I will never go for sedation dentistry again, at least not with halciun as the sedation drug.

i dont blame you doc...make sure to let your dentist know how bad the reaction has been...its certainly highly unusual in general and the fact your still woozy this long afterwards is insane.
