soo it's all good as long as your product is less expensive thanks to it? IMO if you are going to complain about human welfare, it shouldn't matter what the product is or what it costs. It doesn't become any better for the workers that they are making a $500 IPAD or a $200 like product.

I think apple products are MORE than worth the expense. The everywhere apple stores, apple geniuses, the hand-on customer service all that provides and entails is IMO is one of many perfectly logical reasons their products cost what they do.

I buy clothes that are fair wage or made in America, I research products before I buy them. My parents are from haiti and both are human rights activists, one of whom runs her own charity and women's shelter.. and apple gets A LOT of hate for what it does but honestly, if you are buying an electronic these days, there aren't any "safe options" or "fair wage" options (at least none that worked for us). So I really don't see why apple takes all the flack.

I would love it if apple had better working conditions. Don't get me wrong.
but the attitude of "Oh well since they are so expensive they SHOULDN'T do it but it's ok for X, Y and Z to do it because their products are cheaper" IMO, is bananas.
Calm down, I didn't kidnap your first born or anything! Do you own apple stock or something? :lol-sign:

We don't do apple (as stated) because NO, we don't find them worth the price difference. As a matter of fact, I hadn't even heard about this story until Renee posted on FB and here...........I mentioned it to Kevin, and yes, he'd heard of it but hadn't thought enough of it to bring it up.

I was just offering an observation over why so many folks might be a bit upset over the working conditions and *might* feel they have a reason to 'squawk'. One would think (again, for the prices they charge) that perhaps they could pay a bit more for their labor........that was all. Nothing more.

PS...I've been drawn into the apple vs pc debates and issues before, won't do it again. I probably shouldn't have said as much as I have, so I'm out ;)

I'm two hours from an Apple store, so they aren't everywhere! LOL

I don't like that the iPad has to be tied to a computer. We had a kid come into the library with a gifted iPad. They don't have a computer, and we don't have iTunes on our library computers for obvious reasons, so the poor kid was out of luck.

I like that you can use an Android tablet right out of the box.

EDIT: Just looked on the map. I'm actually nearly four hours from the nearest Apple store :rofl1:

No idea why that post read worse than the tone I wrote it in lol

LOL To be fair, it's something I have to deal with people squawking about ALL THE TIME so there is a lot of pent of anger in me..
more annoying than the apple cult, as I affectionately call my fellow apple lovers lol are those so against it that every time I pull out an apple product, I feel like SOMEONE is ALWAYS ready to preach to me about it. Either to compare it's price to other products and PROVE to me why X, Y, Z is better and less expensive and that I am an idiot.
or to preach to me about how I obviously kill puppies and scream "LET THEM EAT CAKE!" at everyone in poverty because I own one of these products.

and that bothers me because short of very few.. everyone who spends their time preaching to me about this problem.. has a product made under the same conditions.

I honestly don't really care if people hate apple products.
My brother has an android and a PC, and no, we didn't disown him.. but IMO his reason of "I think macbooks and iphones are ugly and the apple store is all white and creeps me out" or other technical reasons (like the post above with the computer connection) MAKE SENSE and at least are based on truth.

Don't have an iphone because you are allergic to apples and the logo offends you? totally fair.
but to HATE THEM WITH A DEEP PASSION because apple is this evil company that abuses people and all other electronic companies treat their employees like rockstars so you love them.. is a bit insane IMO

Mine is not tied to a computer?
My mum has never had anything other than an old desktop and hers is not tied to any computer either. She lives in the UK but purchased hers here a couple of months ago. Took it out the box created her apple account on it and she was good to go.

Unless things have changed with iCloud, you used to have to activate the thing with iTunes. That was also the way you had to do any software upgrades.

I don't think apple products cost twice as much. I used to, until I got some and found out they're worth every **** penny for many reasons.

Sure I could build a system with open share and all this other stuff, but i'm a user, not a programmer and nor do I care to learn it all.

Apple has been an innovator for a lot of the stuff windows users are now starting to enjoy. It's a lot easier to copy something already developed as someone already said, and cheaper too.

I've used windows stuff exclusively for a long long time before i got my first mac and that was purely because the new windows machine we were getting kept waiting for some **** hardware to become available to finish it's build.

We said screw it, walked into an apple store and bought one. it was about 200 more in final price over the one we were buying. Sure a stripped down windows pc is cheaper, but start adding software and other stuff and the price catches up quickly.

Compared to all the other issues that arise with computers, my apple products have far outperformed anything else i've ever bought in my life.

I used to care how much they charged, I used to think it was a joke. now I have some and I don't think that way anymore.

Yep, you can use several different extensions with nook..........even PDF :D One reason I went with nook over kindle.
You can read PDFs on Kindle, and you can even convert them to Kindle format to make them easier to read on the Kindle.

Now, if you are preaching about what a product is "worth" or production cost vs. price.. then maybe, depending on how you determine price/value.
but I hate it when people make it about human welfare when what they are complaining about has little to do with factory conditions and much more to do with how much they think they should be paying for a product made under these conditions.

I've got to say, I've had nothing but absolutely terrible trouble with Apple and all I've got is a Macbook Pro. I've had horrid customer service in three different Apple stores. I've had my computer that I treat very very nicely in to be repaired three times in barely over a year of ownership.

It took a ridiculous amount of work, putting up with flat out lies, stories changing on their part, lots of condescending talk, multiple people not calling back/disappearing when they said they would and just plain rudeness to get my computer fixed while it was still soundly under warranty.

Then after all that the biggest part they replaced killed my computer a half a year after it was replaced.

I've just had terrible experiences with them and have put more money into a computer (that cost more than any computer I've ever bought) than any other computer I've had. I love my computer, I love how it works when it's working and hate the idea of not having it. But I will never buy another Apple product again. If it had simply been I got a bad computer but great customer service it might be worth it. But terrible customer service multiple times and a broken computer results in one less returning customer.

[RANT]I wont buy Apple products because there is no free with them, free as in speech not free as in beer. Microsoft is almost the same way. I wouldn't use an Apple product if you gave it to me. I like to customize and sometimes break things, I can do that much better in Linux then I can with Windows or OSX.

Linux and OSX have something in common, Unix. The difference is freedom, Im free to do what I want with Linux. With OSX Im free to do what Apple dictates I can.

Sure you can jailbreak the iPhone and iPad, but why should you have too? Does a jailbroke iPad have the same customization as a Android tablet? How many free apps are written for a jailbroke iOS platform?

South African company Canonical's OS Ubuntu offers me much more freedom and it is coming to tablets and phones soon, and rumor has it TVs as well. Apple is trying to mesh two operating systems to blend their products seamlessly across computer and mobile platforms, MS is trying to mesh two platforms computer and mobile, on one operating system. While I think Canonical has the best chance of doing it best, one of the big two will win out overall.

I see rumors for big things coming for Android with Google's purchase of Motorola as well. Game changing sh!t.

Apple did what M$ couldnt do, something M$ had been promising for YEARS starting with XP and could not deliver. Android is putting a huge cut in iPad and iPhone sales. Over half the Android based tablets out are Kindle Fire's. HTC and Motorola have hit Apple's iPhone market share as well.

Apple had a good thing since the launch of the iPhone, they have been fighting in court to keep their dominance ever since. That fight is only going to get more bitter, and I dont think Apple is going to budge on their pricing no matter how good or awesome the competition is from Google or Ubuntu, and Apple users will continue to pay for an over priced product based solely on user experience. Its the experience is what Apple sells, not the overpriced hardware and people are willing to pay for it.

My experience with Apple is it works, until it doesn't. When it doesn't work you have to wipe and reload the OS, for something as little as network connectivity. With Windows you have a chance of re installing part of what is broken or updating drivers and fix the issue. With iOS you may not have the chance to back up data before a wipe and reload of the OS, something goes wrong and you dont have your data backed up you lose your data.

I like too customize to much and mess with settings to use OSX or iOS. I would use a free iPad as a coaster for my coffee while surfing the web on my Kindle Fire.

My aunt made the claim that smart, above average intelligent people used Apple products. My experience with Apple users does not reflect that and that includes other members of my family when it comes to computers.

OSX and iOS are dumbed down OS's on inferior hardware.[/RANT OFF]

I bought one almost a year ago, before a trip -- and it's so weird how necessary something I didn't really "need" has become. :)

I'm definitely part of the Apple cult, though. I've had nothing but good experiences with all of my (many) products. Linds, that really sucks that you haven't.

And I'm not someone who wants to customize anything. I'm not a computer person. I love how easy and intuitive Apple products are out of the box, every time. My old router was making me insane, so I went out and bought the AirPort and it was easy peasy.

:hail: THIS.

My computer is a TOOL. I want it to be useful. I want it to do what I want, when I want, no histrionics, no drama, no having to fix it before I can use it.

If I pick up a hammer I want it to be ready to drive a nail. I don't want to have to assemble the hammer first, and I expect it to be obvious HOW to use it without having to go to some obscurely written instructions, and I want it to be reliable, not temperamental.

It's perfectly fine that others like to twiddle and tweak their tools before they use them. It's just not what I want to do.

I don't because I don't need one and can't justify the cost, but they do make me drool just a little bit.

There is a target audience for Apple products and I am not it.

I enjoy learning the setup and config files of my systems, I like knowing if I break something I can fix it. With Apple products if something breaks, its broke, especially in iOS.

I'm entirely old fashioned... I have a laptop (the same one for 6 years!) and a cell phone (that makes phone calls, sends texts, and even takes pictures! no internet, no apps, etc.)

I have no desire for fancy, newfangled electronics. Heck, I still listen to CDs in my truck :p

Exactly how I feel. I have no desire to upgrade my computer straight out of the box or mess around with it. I want to open it up and have it work straight out of the box.

I've had good luck with every Apple product, which is why I keep going back! I bought my first iPod when I was in high school (2003!), and ended up replacing it in college (~2007). The old one still worked, and I sold it on ebay. I've NEVER had an Apple product break or have issues (knock on wood, of course!) I STILL use my iPod from 2007 on a daily basis. My husband has the exact same one and still uses his daily as well.

I can't see myself veering away from a brand that works SO well for me, and has for so long.

I've had horrible luck with other brands.

My parents (and my husband's parents) actually both bought us the same Dell laptops for college. Mine overheated and died right outside the warranty, and his followed the exact same suit. My Acer notebook died right outside the warranty as well.

Anyway... my iPad was delivered yesterday, and I love it already!

This is how I feel too lol

I love that Hannah can pick up my Iphone and just USE it without a bunch of complications. I didn't show her how to use it... it's just that intuitive. she picked it up, experimented a bit and now she can do just about anything on it without needing my help for everything.

My MIL has an Iphone and thank God for it being so easy to use because she is NOT tech savvy at all lol.

I got to play with a HP Touch tonight. Even with my big hands I like the smaller form factor of the 7" tablets.

The thing that bugs me about all tablets is finger prints and streaks from the touch interface. Touch interface on a desktop or laptop would drive me batsh!t

I may buy a full tablet in the future with front and rear cams and IR interface. Right now my rooted Kindle Fire running Android is a fun platform to use.

Even Jailbroke iOS is to restrictive for me. So no iDevice for me.
