... to my teeth. During my last routine exam (about a year ago ), I was told I had a cavity that I needed to get filled. Well, at the time I was working 48-52 hours a week, preparing for a wedding, and then went from that to going to school full time and working 20 hours a week... Plus packing and preparing for the big move to CO. Long story short, I never got my cavity filled.

For the past few weeks, my tooth has been hurting pretty good, and I just Google-d "What happens when you don't get a cavity filled" and got some vary scary answers. :yikes:

Abscesses. Root canals. Rotten tooth. Great... I should have just taken a day off of work and got it done last summer. Harlow has a big bill coming up tomorrow for her yearly exam + some extras, which is another story. So now I am looking for a low cost clinic since we have no health insurance. Fudge.

/rant. Thanks for reading this if you made it this far.

Darlin', if it hurts it's down to the nerve. This. will. get. worse. Much. worse.

Of course the nerve can possibly just die, then it might stop aching but then the tooth is dead...will either fall out or have to be pulled, meaning $$$$bridgework$$$$ or a gap if it's a visible tooth.

Then again it can abscess and hurt alot more while they treat the infection then have to figure out how to treat the tooth...

But unless you can consider DIY with a hammer you're gonna HAVE to get it taken care of ...beg borrow or steal...Best of luck

It's one of those things.. trust me.
I put my cavities off (because it really is so easy until it is a problem lol) until I was in pain and ended up with KILLER root canals instead of just regular fillings.

I would suggest getting them checked up on. Payment plans if you must but it's so much cheaper in the long run to just get em done then wait until it's a more painful/expensive problem

The idea of a root canal makes me shiver. I just messaged a good friend of my mom's who is a dental hygienist to see what dentist to use out here. I'm so bad about the dentist. They scare me. :rofl1:

Don't stress about a root canal they sound a lot worse than they really are. They take longer than normal fillings but that's about it. I've had dental problems since I was a kid, to make things worse I have the worst dentist phobia, to the point where I will make myself sick worrying about it. My mom used to say I had a million dollar mouth with all the work I've had done.

I've found that if the dentist shows me what he's doing I'm good. The last one was really cool, they had one of those digital xray camera thingies, so he would take pics every time he stopped to get a new tool and snap a pic. I could look over and see the progress on my tooth.

I have pretty bad cavities too, in most of my molars. My mother never took me to the dentist and now that I'm out on my own...just one of those things you never think about until it HURTS. Lol. And it really does hurt...every time I try to eat something super sweet, salty, or if it's crunchy and gets pounded down in there....ugh. Makes my whole jaw throb. And then I know I need my wisdom teeth out on top of it!

I'm TRYING to make a dentist appointment this week, but I have no clue if it's covered under our insurance. And of course, they never answer their phone, so I'll have to truck up to the office just to find out.

You need to get yourself in to the dentist. I had to have a root canal done on one the cavities that bothered me down to the nerve. They filled it and I had a root canal done on it as well. Your tooth is going to abscess if you don't get and it will hurt so much more than it does now!! Dental problems suck and so does going to the dentist but we all have to do it. :)

Also, the root canal doesn't hurt if they numb you up pretty good.. mine didn't even hurt at all the one I had done last year at all after I had it done. Just take pain medicine after and you should be fine. :) They never prescribed me anything, I just took ibuprofen after I got home.

Maybe we should just pull all of our teeth and get dentures. :)

I hate medical things because they are so expensive and there are usually needles involved and there are always more problems that pop up and "you should really get that checked out" type of thing... And when you don't have insurance (or it isn't covered...), it adds up dangerously fast.

My hygienist friend is going to evaluate my tooth tomorrow, so hopefully that will bring me up to date on how bad it is.

Do you guys have volunteer clinics?

I know here once a year a ton of the local dentists team up and do a day or two of totally free dental care. If you are one of the first few hundred there they do everything extractions, root canals pretty much anything for free and it's all well known reputable dentists.

I had to use them last year and they were great.
