My old beater Pontiac died for good. GG helped me get a new vehicle, and it ended up being the truck of my dreams. IT is so darn nice and clean inside, I said I wouldn't take the dogs in it until I got a shell for the back, unless it was an emergency, but I caved. We put down sheets. Victor was positively thrilled.
Apparently he likes trucks as much as I do. I hated the pontiac from the day it came and suffered through with it for 5 years, this last year and the summer and fall worst of all, I never knew if I was going to get where I was going or not. IT always started eventually, but it ditched me on a regular basis. You just never knew what was going to happen. THe mechanic had this truck, and I held my breath, it is what I have wanted for as long as I can remember. Going to do all I can to find a shell, because I have never ever had such a nice interior, but not taking the dog, I just can't do it. SO this is Victor's first ride.

Looks like he's enjoying the ride! I'm so glad you've got a new truck now and that you're happy with it! You sure deserve it.

Thanks!!! IT's a 2000 Dodge Dakota 4 door mid sized truck. Mom said she wanted me to have something dependable before she passed on. The mechanic said it would take 2000 to fix my 500 dollar car, there just wasn't any point. Nothing worked from the trunk to the gas gauge. It was more dents and rust than anything else. So good bye little green butt ugly car. The only thing I miss is being able to throw the dogs in and not care because it coudlnt' make any difference. I keep seeing the truck in the driveway and thinking that cant' be mine. THe mechanic had fixed it up for himself so new belts, and total overhauled. Fingers crossed I am so hoping I made a good decision. I have been a lemon magnet in the past, but this time, I had it checked out first, I think I got seriously lucky. Someone had taken really good care of it, it looks like new inside. First time I sat in it I thought I can't believe I am being allowed to sit in this. Will be seriously trying to save up for a used camper shell. A friend told me they have short ones that still have windows in them. That is what I need for puppers.

:)

The car I have currently is the nicest one I have owned ever...

I used to drive mostly old beaters for the longest time. It is a good feeling to have a car that you can enjoy!

I just didn't realize how much my car was stressing me out. I am use to things breaking..I am use to problems. I try to roll with it, and just accept it as life and not flip out, or over react or whatever. It is what it is blah blah blah. But every time I go out and the truck just varoooms to life, I feel tension ease, didnt' even know I was doing that. I have wanted a truck for so long, the last few cars have been 2000 pieces of junk that I have worked another 5 years or so out of. Hyia is beyond thrilled. My Mom said here's your Christmas and Birthday for the rest of forever. Best ever. I know it is 12 years old but you would never know it except for a little bit of rust over the tire well. Even the water beaded up because it's been well waxed. Last 2 cars I had were wrecked before I got them, no one waxed those, that's for sure.THey buzzed rattled, and shook like wrecked cars too. My truck is just so awesome, Iam so happy. THanks Moth I am glad you have a vehicle that makes you happy too.

THanks Bax and Tuff STuff too. IF you didn't know VIctor, you might not know those are his dreamy eyes, only when he is most pleased with life does he look like that. I stiill believe that originally he came from a farm. THey had horses there. The owner cooked their food in the form of stew. A lot of old school pointer people do here and if you saw his face the first time I made him left over stew because I was out of dog food you would have seen, not only dreamy eyes, but an expression that said Now she has finally figured it out. THe truck was like that. I think VIctor had a very good start as a puppy, then I think he was thrown in with a pack of children too young, and unmonitored and was hurt by a toddler laying on him like a stuffie. I will bet anything he snapped or bit, and that it was his legs that were hurt, and he was dumped.
I know I was right about the description of the worker at the kill shelter where he was picked up by Save OUr Strays because I asked the lady that rescued him if a man about 300 lbs with a bald head, wearing farmer style overalls was in charge of him and was he mean? SHe said I had described him exactly. And then said "I don't know why sometimes poeple like that are drawn to that job.". A man fitting that description came into the guild one day, when he walked through the door Victor looked up, he was about 5 at the time, and fell to the floor in a shivering ball of fear. It was like I wasn't even there, I have never seen him so terrified. Even with the nightmares he had when he first came. THe man felt terrible, he had done nothing to warrant it, and was a very nice man too. I took VIctor to the back room and sat with him until he recovered. THen we went in and he was able to meet the man who was patient and kind and understood why I wanted Victor to see there was nothing to fear. IT had to bet a post stress flash back, if not I don't know what else it could be.

I took Hyia to a birthday party at a farm once where they rode "story book" ponies. ALl with Princess's names. Victor rode with me and as soon as we turned in the drive, his eyes went dreamy and he was soooo happy. THat is why I think the horses were a part of his past. I also think his Mama had big spots and not Lemon because he almost jumped out of the car with glee when he saw a pointer like that when I got him in the very beginning and has never acted that way about any dog since. So I am not a mind reader, I am just going by his reactions.
