After the latest Diamond fiasco, I decided to switch my dogs from Taste of the Wild to the Earthborn Holistic Grain Free. I decided on the fish formula, and while I was in Iowa City last weekend, I looked up the stores that carry it on the website and went to buy a bag. I was pretty pleased with myself! The price was cheaper than online, and no shipping!

After I got it home, I was looking at the bag and noticed that it had barley in it. I was quite perplexed. That was when I discovered that they have TWO fish formulas. One is part of their grain free line, the other a novel protein source more on the level of their Vantage line. This one is Ocean Fusion, and what I wanted is Coastal Catch. The bags are nearly the same color. Bummer.

I really wanted grain free for Stannis. Fortunately Grant tolerates food changes pretty well and can start eating this then switch to the other stuff when I get it. He really seems to prefer it to the TOTW.

So I guess my rambling lament is to be sure you look closely at the labels. Some of them look similar!

I can't even tell you how many times I have almost directed a customer to buy the Ocean Fusion, when what I really wanted them to buy is the Coastal Catch!

But TOTW is the same way - their Pacific Stream puppy formula is in identical packaging to the adult. Every time someone comes up with a bag of the puppy, I double check and ask them if the puppy food is what they meant to grab... and on more than one occasion they go "omg NO!" Both companies need to make it less confusing lol.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. It didn't help that I'd never actually seen the bags in person. I knew that was blue and had something fish related on it. I was commenting to my husband that it was way cheaper than I'd seen it online. That should have been a red flag.
