I didn't watch the video but them secretly taping it could mean they paid the people to do it. The video with the racoon looking dog things was just that. they will do anyhting to get people upset and its working. That fur is not used for us. If you buy fur know where it comes from. Think about it,the fur coming to us is not going to be beat in the dirt and cut up. Just like with leather cows, they aren't even allowed near barbed wire. these dogs and cats fur is going on the little novelty toys sold at cheap shops and flea marketts. I'm sure there are some exceptions but not many.
Don't get me started. First of all, you didn't watch the video. Those racoon looking dogs are still dogs. And those dogs are being butchered over there and include Saint Bernards and Golden Retrievers among others. These animals furs are being sold into the USA (and God know where else) under false pretenses. The company(ies) listed are only a FEW of who willingly wants these furs/skins to further their trade. That cute little fringe of fur around the hood of your coat? Most likely someone's beloved German Shepherd at one time. J. Crew knowingly buys dog and cat fur from China. I suggest you view the video...

Elinhunter, why are you getting an attitude with me? I never said they were not getting killed,I said PETA makes the vidoe by having them do it! Get mad at peta, not me. I know some of it gets over here.Viewing the vidoe will tell me nothing other than they are killing dog adn that sucks,or that peta is paying people to beat the dogs more while they kill them. Don;t get mad at me about it. I sure as hell didn't argue with you about it sucking they get killed.

Just a little perspective on the Chinese issue....

1. We all know that cruelty to animals and humans is an international trait.

2. I've lived in China and seen many many Chinese that dote on their pet dogs. In fact I just came from a friends house today who are Chinese and have a little cutey that they take wonderful care of.

3. The United States has one of the highest murder rates in the world, and has produced the likes of Ted Bundy, William Gacy, the Night Stalker, Jeffrey Dahmer, and is home to untold numbers of puppymills.

I know that the video was VERY DISTURBING AND UPSETTING, but before we get racist, we should examine ourselves first.

Before this thread gets out of hand, let's all take a deep breath and focus on the original issue at hand.

OMG...I almost gathered up to courage to watch it, but then I saw these cute little pets meowing and barking...and I knew something bad was gonna happen to them so I stopped. This makes me want to hug Charlie really hard...how can they be so heartles??

Okay I watched it to the part where they dropped the cages...Joce, if you think these dogs are racoons you need to watch the first 5 seconds of the video.

you need to read what I wrote. That the video wtih the racoon animals was made by them. As in they paid people to beat the dogs into the dirt and skin them alive. I didn't say it was this video. And that is why I am not watching the video. Its peta crap. Even if its real that sucks but I do not trust a thing peta says. I'm not arguing the dogs are not dead,I'm just guessing this incident is petas fault.

OH MY FRIGGIN' GAWD!

1.) Im not a big fan of PETA to start with (I dont believe in their gospel of letting the animals roam free, and I plan on keeping my boy intact)

2.) I got pissed when I saw a BLACK LABRADOR crammed into a cage next to the German Shep. Im sorry I have a big heart for Labs, I feel bad that these guys have to be skinned alive, the cats and other un-identified species doesnt bother me as much as the dogs.

3.) Youd think that they would at least humanely euthanize these animals, and use better cages and a forklift at least to remove them from the truck - at the very least.

4.) After watching more videos (the Iams one) Im not so sure Im going to be supporting Eukanuba all that much anymore knowing the two companies are siblings. I could say more things, but Im going to keep my mouth shut.

Hi!

This is really BAD!

Makes me sick... but chinese were eating dogs and using their fur for long long time..

Chow Chow for instance:
"The Chow Chow is a Chinese breed and was used in that country for hunting, pulling small sledges and carts. The dog was also eaten in China as food and until about a century ago was called "The edible dog of China".
Normal for them I guess..

Bye, Katja

Yup it is normal for their culture. Very sickening for us to watch but totally normal for them. They had a video a while ago from China where they were skinning a raccoon and it was still alive through the whole skinning process, even after poor thing, think of the torture it lived through. They wanted the skin whole so refused to kill it first. Also alot of times before they skin the cats they boil them alive, they say it is better for the skinning then. Imagine being boiled alive. I just could not ever imagine such horrors but they exist out there and for some cultures it is everyday practice.

Not to mention in Korea, and I'm sure in other Asian dogmeat eating cultures, they beat the animal while alive to extremes before cracking them over the head to raise their adrenalin levels right before death. They say it makes their meat more "tender". Sick. Sick. Sick.

Here it is:
IAMS Video

Basically the reason I am keepin' muh mouth shut is I have alot of friends that support Eukanuba/IAMS. These are good people, but Im also sure that they are unaware that this sort of thing goes on in a dog-food company where youd think they would treat the animals better than this. But due to the fact that they are in temperature controlled cages, fed/watered and receive vet care for severe injuries and illnesses, the USDA cannot bring out violations.

What Im unhappy with is the fact that they cut tendons out of dogs hind-legs so that they cannot get up for whatever reason bothers me. Im not completely against animal research as we all learn new things in regards to medicine, procedures, and so forth, but I want it done in a dignified humane way so that animal suffering is kept to a minimum.

I just dont see the need to rock the boat with these people, I think they have good intentions but lack the education. See what I mean?

Also I might add this - I am for animal welfare, and not animal rights there is a HUGE difference.

-Dix
Very big difference and I agree, I would not go near those animal rights activists with a ten foot poll but defanantly support animal welfare.

Victory!!!

One small step for man, one bigger step for animalkind. You see, EVERY LITTLE BIT you can do can help! I signed the petition. Just got this e-mail from PETA (not that I totally support all their efforts, just the ones I care about)...

Victory: J. Crew Promises "No More Fur!"
Thanks to each and every one of you who signed the petition, handed out leaflets, called the CEO to tell him how horrified you were that the company was selling fur, and otherwise helped the cause. After just 11 short weeks, this pressure has paid off. On November 30, J.Crew confirmed that it will no longer sell fur—no fur garments, no fur trim, no fur anything. Joining the ranks of top fashion retailers H&M, Forever 21, and others that have adopted fur-free policies, J.Crew is sending a powerful message to the clothing industry that subjecting rabbits, coyotes, foxes, and other animals to horrible lives and torturous deaths will not be tolerated.

In light of this exciting agreement, please dispose of any J.Crew campaign materials that you have, and please stop contacting the company.

Thanks again for all that you did to play an important part in this step forward in the fight against cruelty to animals! Please forward this good news to a friend.

Sincerely,

Ian Blessing

Thanks for recognizing this, Ash. I'm amazed that with the "China Boycott" thread going wild, there can't be at least a few more here celebrating the GOOD news and not just wallowing in the bad...
