But it still makes me made for them to show stuff like that grrrrr
Dakotah... I am not an avid follower of PETA and disagree with quite a few things they do to spread their propaganda. But I stay intuned with things such as this to educate the public about what's happening in other countries (as well as ours). China has been liberated and many Chinese love their pets and are most likely sickened and outraged, such as we are. This video doesn't lie... whether PETA secretly videotaped it or someone else. So, what makes you so mad for them to show "stuff like that"?? The Chinese have been given a voice, and they can now exercise it. They need to know what's going on in their society and it may take other countries, like good ole PETA in the good ole USA, to show them what's going on.

Well, I'm sure if they have animals at home they're not "pets". They make me sick with bile. That idiot that doesn't get his jollies off enough by throwing the cages then has to go stomp on one because a dog is crying is a prime example.

This is not new, nor is it isolated. Im an active member of the group "animals asia" and this kind of thing is just part or what is going on. This happens every single day in markets all over china. You think it's bad on video, you should see it in real life. They actuall believe that torturing an animal and prolonging its death will make the meat more tender. It is not at all uncommon to turn a corner in some chinese villages and find someone with a dog nailed to a wall with its fur being blowtorched off. Other dogs are tied around this scene, scared beyond measure.
My only advice is do something. Join animals asia, or sign a petition. Write a letter to the chinese government. Oh, and if anyone ever goes there, don't buy the dogs and let them go. Many people do this by mistake, but the trapper only gets more money and catches the dogs later anyway.

Can you give direction on how to join Animals Asia? Do you have links to other petitions or pointers on writing letters to the Chinese Gov't?

Animals asia website. As for writing letters to the chinese govermnet, I dont have the address at the moment though Im sure you can find that yourself. The trick is to be very polite and express yourself without insulting them. It is advised to speak of the practice as degrading to the chinese themselves. They seem to have little care of wether it is "cruel" to the animals or not, they are more concerned of how it affects china's image as a whole.

Thank you for your information. As hard as it is to read, watch, and follow, we, as animal lovers, must not turn our heads. I also understand the cultural differences and how to approach them. Thanks...

They are not suppose to use domestic animal fur on clothing here in the united states or anything else. This dates back I believe several years ago when it was brought to the attention of washington. However that does not mean some slip through illegally but they are not suppose to sell those products here if they use domestic fur of dogs and cats. What started it was these stuffed looking animals that looked very lifelike several years ago and upon investigation they found they were like taxidermied essentially. We stopped the importation of these things then they further investigated the clothing market and discovered it there too so I don't believe they can get away with it anymore accept blackmarket. It a grose practice overseas.

And as far as PETA goes its all politics. They are not truly interested in things that they should be like "puppymills" which if they put all their mouth and money into could get the agricultural department to do something about, no they would rather pick on old lady's with furcoats. Free the minks like they did that one time so they can all starve and die horrible deaths, turn you hamsters ect loose. How stupid this is not their main agenda they are a very rich political group. I would never support Peta .

AGAIN... this thread is NOT to support PETA! It is simply to release information that was uncovered THROUGH PETA. PETA has also done exhaustive investigations around puppymills, not just old ladies wearing mink coats from the 1920's. Please, everyone, this is not a PETA advertisement. Just disseminating information derived from their undercover efforts. Thanks...

I didn't insinuate this was a PETA thread. This has been on national news several years ago and on discovery channel and Animal planet. But it is good that everyone is aware of the goings on in asian countries concerning how they treat and consider animals in general not just dogs and cats.

PETA are a bunch of hypocritic whackos, but at least with some issues they are doing a great job bringing the plight of many poor animals to the eyes of the public. there aren't many organizations out there that have the financial backing that PETA has, and in this time unfortunately you need lots of financial support if you want anyone to pay any attention.

that being said, i've seen videos of animals being abused for one reason or another in just about any country you can think of. in industrialized nations it's the factory farming of animals (especially caged hens at egg farms, confined in insanely small spaces and with their beaks cropped so they don't kill each other out of pure stress), then you have the inhumanity of puppy mills, tuna fishing, whaling, the greyhound racing industry, cock fighting, abuse of exotic animals for entertainment (e.g. in turkey and romania) and the list goes on and on and on and on.

i don't think pointing fingers to only one particular country is fair.

Exactly Mordy
Sometimes when I think about where most of our food comes from in our own Countries America and Canada it's very inhumane. I try only to buy eggs, chickens, beef etc that are pasture fed, free range or organic and can prove that the animals lived as stress free of a life as possible. When you think of how some of our livestock animals are kept and killed it's very cruel. If people are buying just regular meat portions then they are supporting animal cruelity and cannot justify pointing fingers at others since they are just as responsible. :(
Very sad and cruel world we live in. It all revolves around the almighty dollar and how quickly the big corporations can produce.

I Watched That Video, It Made My Blood Chill And My Stomach Churn. How Can Those People Work There. Do They Have No Humanity? No Feelings? No Morals? How Any Human Being Can Cause Harm To Another Living Thing For Money Or Vanity Or Whatever You Want To Call It Is Beyond My Imagination. These Creatures (they Do Not Deserve To Be Called Human) And The Companies They Work For Make Me Sick To My Very Soul.

Thank you for that link. I signed the petition. That makes me so sick. I've seen that picture before and have heard it wasn't for real. But obviously, and sadly, it is. I am absolutely sick.

I couldnt watch this I recieved an e-mail from these a few weeks ago and it turned my stomach. I really dont know how they can be so cruel although the chinese and japanese do not seem to have much respect for domestic animals or others who can produce their so-called wonder cures.

I didn't watch the video but them secretly taping it could mean they paid the people to do it. The video with the racoon looking dog things was just that. they will do anyhting to get people upset and its working. That fur is not used for us. If you buy fur know where it comes from. Think about it,the fur coming to us is not going to be beat in the dirt and cut up. Just like with leather cows, they aren't even allowed near barbed wire. these dogs and cats fur is going on the little novelty toys sold at cheap shops and flea marketts. I'm sure there are some exceptions but not many.
