I am in need of assistance......PLEASE!!

Where to start. I have a Mutt, I know he has Rot and think he may have some Dobie in him.

Problems I am having is 1) he always barks at kids that ride or walk past the townhouse. 2) barks at trucks or loud cars that pass by the house. 3) He has been taking apart my couch piece by piece.

I have tried. Can noise to get his attention. Paper train. Bark Colar. I even spraied the couch with a bitter spray. Nothing I tried seems to work.

Does anybody have any ideas that might help?

Age?

How old is the dog? How much exercise is he getting per day?

I am not a trainer, but I was told to close the curtains to get our dog to stop barking at people coming and going. Why, is that the dogs are getting something out of barking at people/cars coming and going. They tend to think they are barking, and the people/cars are leaving--because he scared them off. Not that they were walking by anyway. Did that make sense? So, the dog may do it more and more, thinking he is working very hard at helping protect the property.

This is not a long term solution, but it could help you get some peace for a few days. Don't know how to help with loud vehicles.

You may have already thought of this, but have you enrolled in a dog training class or can you hire a trainer for a few hours? If you enroll in a class there is generally a question and answer time, before or after so you may be able to get more bang for your buck. A class could help your dog learn to listen to you more with distractions around.

we used to have a collie dog and she would bark at EVERYTHING. UPS trucks, school buses, lightening, squirrels, air molecules. some nights we would even get calls from the neighbors to bring our dog inside because she was barking too much during a thunder storm (she'd be out on the porch, covered of course). so i guess what i'm trying to say is some dogs are more prone to bark than others... we had her for 10 years before we had to put her down and she always barked.

i don't know if your dog barks differently, like if it's more than just talking (that's what my mom says whenever my golden barks- that she's just talking to us, which is certainly true in some cases)

Well, my pit bull also barks at everything. When I take her outside, she will bark at anyone. She barks at kids too, and they get so scared, but when I hold Bula and tell the kids to come see her, they will come over there, and Bula will just roll over on her belly and all the kids will pet her. she absolutely loves it. Now, when I take her out there, if there are people she has already seen, she doesn't bark at them. Now, if she is in the house and someone walks by our window, she goes crazy. I let her bark then, because I feel like she is trying to protect me. (I am a 23 year old girl that lives by herself). The only protection I have is my two dogs. She is getting better about the kids, but she still barks at grown people. Maybe your dog just needs to see who is out there. Bula also eats everything in the house. She ate my remote control the other day. The WHOLE THING!!! I think she has anxiety though. She hates it when I leave to go to work.

the anxiety thing could be very true... my collie once completely shredded her doggy bed once when my family and i were out of town and we've convinced it's because she missed us. my golden has also chewed on remotes.. i think we've gone through three of them, but anxiety isn't the case with her... she just wants attention- like if we're watching tv or something and not playing with her, so goes and chews on something. that's a habit to be broken... but i suppose it's better than chewing anything anytime anywhere.
