Does anyone know what dog breed is the best hypoallergenic one? I'm interested in rather small-size dogs, well, maybe small to mid-size, but prefer to stay on a smaller side. Thanks!

I forgot to mention that the reason I want a rather smaller dog is because my husband and I travel a lot (by car) and it is easier to take a small dog with us. At the same time, he has allergy, so we're looking for a perfect breed for us. Any suggestions?

A cat...

In all seriousness there is no hypo allergenic breeds but there are often times dogs breeds which cause less reactions than others. It depends on the person.

I am allergic to dogs. I live with seven dogs in a fairly small space with no problem. Ten minutes with a golden retriever in a closed space and I'm wheezing.

What I would suggest doing is visiting the homes of people with breeds you're interested in and see which ones both speak to your lifestyle and cause him minimal to no reaction.

I ditto the above.

Feeding the dog a high quality diet can help, as it often reduces the amount of shedding. Cleaning the house often, getting an air purifier, and not allowing the dog on the furniture can reduce the amount of allergens in the air and on the furniture. Not allowing the dog in the bedroom is a big one too, since it reduces the amount of allergens your husband would be exposed to while he sleeps.

There are dogs that don't shed (or almost nearly don't shed) that can cause lower reactions to people with allergies. At the same time though, there are no guarantees--like suggested above you need to spend time with the specific dog you want to bring home and see how your husband reacts.

Do you have any other desires in a dog? Something small that can fit in a car covers a heck of a lot of breeds. Any requests regarding grooming, energy, people/dog friendliness, etc?
