I was 23. I had to, because my mom had just died and I couldn't afford the upkeep of the house while still in college.

Bought my own house at 25, worst mistake ever. Just sold that house and am back to renting at least for a year.

With my parents gone, I don't have a choice but to live on my own now. Sometimes I wonder if having that safety net would lessen my ever-present financial anxiety. :/

I went to a college dorm in the city when I was almost 18. That lasted half a semester...I had nothing to do, no animals, went out partying way too much, didn't actually go to class. Moved back, moved out again to a teensy one bedroom trailer the next year. That would have stuck that time, but my dad went into the military and Mom asked me to come home and help with my siblings. So I moved back. I moved to Texas a year or two later with my cousin, I'm not very good with the roommate thing. I hated living with her, all of a sudden her boyfriend was living there, and her friend that helped her move, and her friend's boyfriend..5 people and three dogs in a two bedroom cottage. And only two of us paying rent. And the two people sleeping on the couch yelling at me when I tried to let my dogs out in the morning. Ugh. I left.

So I'm still at home now, but I'm looking into purchasing a home soon. Maybe.

I was 19 when I moved out - mostly for school. I live about an hour away from my parent, though I'm home often on the weekends. I live with my SO (who comes home with me, most of the time. ;) )

I finally moved out of my parent's place this May at age 24. Bought a house with my boyfriend and his brother. We're about a 20 minute drive from my parent's house, and 5 minute drive from my sister's house.

How far away from your family did you move? Were you going to college?

Couldn't be happier :rofl1: my relationship with my parents is SO MUCH BETTER now that we don't live together and I love living on my own :)

I moved 13 hours away for school four years ago, and I'm living about 30 hours away for the summer. That said, I'm not completely independent and I still spend a lot of time with my dad and sister. I'm 21 :)

I moved out the day I turned 18. Got an apartment with a friend and worked full time. The apartment was only the next town over. I did move back home for about 8 months right before I got married to save money for my wedding etc.
My 22 year old daughter is still living at home, 24 year old son has been living with his fiancee for 2 years and my youngest is going about an hour away to school in August. As long as they are in school, I have no problem with them living at home, after that they should be independent enough to be on their own.

I think I was 22 when I moved out the first time. I moved in with an ex (but back then he was my bf) and was totally unprepared. It was just a bad situation overall so 3 years later I moved back in with my parents. After getting financially stable enough to stand on my own two feet I moved back out when I was 27-ish.

The first time I moved about 15 minutes away. This time I moved about 35-40 minutes away.

I'm 22 and still at home. I wish I could have moved out by now but a well, life isn't always how one wants it to go.. I'd be screwed if I was forced to leave. So glad I can save and set myself up for the future. I'll look forward to the day I can move out.

18, never went back. Cut off all contact and just burned the bridge and moved on. I got one year of school in since I was a year ahead and graduated highschool at 16.

Been on the move ever since, but I don't regret it.

21 and still at home. My sister will be 18 a year from this past Wednesday and we're kind of semi-planning to move out around then/within that year but who knows. We'll see. :) It could easily be 3, 4, more years. My parents love having us there and I pay for most of my own stuff now except most of the basic groceries and even then I try to help out some. Anything extra like special food I want or clothes, etc I buy myself or wait to ask for Christmas lol. We all get along for the most part and I have little desire to move out. I'd love to be able to have a place where I can have another dog and a few cats but I'm in no real hurry. Just saving money right now.
