This year has been probably our most expensive yet, since everyone keeps trying to kill themselves. Lincoln's shoulder injury cost $91 (that included ear meds as he also had another yeast infection) and Kiba's bout of HGE was $199.

Our vet charges us:
$40 for a consultation
$125 neuter/ $184 spay
$19 fos distemper, $16 rabies
$37 for 3 months of heart worm meds for 5 dogs
$16 for one month of flea/tick stuff (sufficient for 5 dogs)

$200 for HGE? That's a steal! A client just spent $500 on HGE with her dog.

We budget $70/mo for vet care for our dogs, so $840 annually for preventatives (heartworm and flea/tick) and routine care. $220 annually per dog.

On average, I'd guess $300/year? Maybe. But it just depends.

Last year was abnormal... I spent probably over $2700 on him in one year. But he had a case of a bad GI upset and spent the night in the hospital, plus subq fluids throughout the week, etc. And then he had a dental procedure on his lower canine tooth which cost me a pretty $1200.

But yeah this year I've only spent $65 at the vets for him. And it was for something stupid, we shouldn't even have gone, lol, so they just charged me the exam fee (so I guess their exam fee is $65). I do like to get him a yearly though, which will be next month, and I want to do bloodwork and probably titers this year so I'm sure it will end up being a $200+ visit. I most likely won't be doing any more vaccines besides rabies (which I'll do at the spay now clinic near our house, sooo much cheaper, and I like them there). But I would like to do titers first for the heck of it so am going to suck up the price.

Our vet is somewhat pricey, but I've definitely seen pricier around here. And I really like our current vet and feel comfortable there, so it's worth the peace of mind.
