I am moving Psyche and Simi out of the farm house and into a duplex in the city with me (gulp) very soon and am working on a budget with the boyfriend and am trying to figure out how long a bag of food will last us.

We currently feed Taste of The Wild and the Costco Nature's Domain Grain Free stuff mixed.
Simi gets 1.5 cups, twice a day right now. She is at a healthy weight, so I'd like to keep her at that.
Psyche gets 1 cup, twice a day, and is also a healthy weight.

When I move they will likely be putting them on only the natures domain stuff (because mom drives an hour the other way to get the TOTW). They are 40lbs bags.

Can anyone help me figure out here how long a bag of food is going to last me? We are kinda clueless because we haven't had only two dogs in a VERY, VERY long time.

Thanks in advance!

My 40 lb bag lasts me about three weeks for 5 dogs, sometimes a bit longer. Mind you, three dogs are tiny. Aesop eats the most and he gets just over two cups a day, give or take. Goose gets a cup and a half per day. The rest get tiny dog amounts, lol.

we subtract rations if the toddler has offered up too many goodies on a given day.

I had planned on weighing out the 5 cups, our food scale isn't working right now is all, so was hoping someone here might have some insight, but that may just be what I have to do. :)

Gotcha. I wasn't sure if you were looking for an instant estimate, or an accurate answer. I don't suppose weighing yourself with and without 5 cups of food would be very accurate!

I have nothing further to offer. I buy food when I'm out; I have no idea if it is every 3 weeks or every 3 months.

Back when I was feeding Acana, the Dobermans ate about the same as your two and a 30lb bag of food lasted me about 3 or 4 weeks. Can't remember exactly, but I know I bought food once a month.

Great. I am thinking a bag will probably last them just about a month. I'd love to put them on raw, but just don't know if I could afford it.

I'd say about 3 weeks. I used to write on the calender when I opened a new bag to see how long it lasted when we switch between good and bad foods.

Just keep looking for a good source if you want to feed raw! It costs me like $160 for 5 or 6 months of food for Dance and Journey. Granted, they don't eat much, but that's still cheaper than most kibble. And some people manage to find raw even cheaper. Breeders tend to know where to go - if not for them, I'd have never found my place.

Uh...until I get sick of the bag and hand it to a friend? :p seriously, they never finish a bag because I get bored and give it away about halfway through. Job perks are so lost on me...

This post should win an award for being the most unhelpful.

40lb bag of TOTW has lasted Eve 2 months so far, and there's still about a third of it left! She gets a buncha scraps, but still... I was surprised at how long it's lasted.

My crew eats 6 cups/day and a 30lb bag of Fromm lasts about 3-4 weeks.

ETA: The Fromm feeding guidelines do include amounts in grams, so I just used that to calculate to double check. There are about 100g in 1 cup of Fromm and 13.61kg in the bag, so that works out to just over 22 days worth of food per bag, or 136 cups. :)

A big bag of TOTW lasts my girls a month and a week, so I figure it will last you at least a month. Maybe a week shorter than a month ;)

...I'm shocked I think.

Penn is free fed (I know. I'm a terrible owner but she only picks from time to time and is certainly not even a tad overweight) but I feel like she goes through WAYYYY more food than this. I buy Go& we go through a medium sized bag every two weeks.. I know that's less than 40lbs but I think it's like 20lbs. And there's only one of her and I'm almost positive she eats WAY more than your guys dogs :|

We go through about one 28.6 lb bag every 10 or so days. Backup eats 4-6 cups, Sloan eats 3-4 cups, Arnold eats 2-3 cups, and Shamoo eats 2 cups a day depending on activity and amount of raw.

Ok.... I used to feed Bodhi 2 mugs of food per day.

I THINK a large bag would last us about 6 weeks.....

Prob not much help.

Prob went through 15kg food per month easy for both dogs.

Email the company and ask how many cups are in that sized bag. Natural balance, which is a similar size has about 112 cups in their 28 pound bags, so Nico, at 3 cups a day takes about 37 days to go through a bag.
