We have calvin, a 6 month old westie and he is awesome; obedient, loving, fun, very very active (we usually walk him 35-55 miles a week) and laid back. However, we are looking to find him a brother/sister who will fit the following criteria:

small to medium size
no/little shedding
both active and couch/lap friendly
dog friendly temperment

we were thinking about a JRT or maybe another westie, but I wasn't sure about personality conflict/dominance/competitive issues. Maybe we could just get a female, but I don't know. We are also not opposed to a mutt, but we are renters and shedding is a big thing for us (well, really the homeowners) and we want to be respectful of that. any help would be great.

If you go for a JRT absolutely go for a girl. They are known for being very bad with same sex agression. The rough coats shed less, but still do shed (probably about the same as a westie) Rescue is great 'cause you can see the temperment if it will be the right energy level for your home.
