I am covered in hives today. I started getting itchy yesterday, but today is way past itchy. Arms, legs, even palms, soles of my feet, and lips are swollen! I'm fairly certain this is in reaction to whatever bit me (thinking spider) the other day, and the toxins are finally to my lymph nodes, IDK, but it's all I can come up with ATM.

Last time this happened I ended up at the ER with a needle jabbed into each butt cheek (nice picture huh? LOL) I would like very much to avoid this. I am taking Benadryl gel caps which is helping keep the itching to a minimum. Any other suggestions? Home remedies you've tried and know works?

BLAH!

I sometimes break out in hives randomly... usually after a shower or a bath... I have an anti-itch cream I buy at Target. It doesn't get rid of the hives but it DOES make it stop itching. You have to be careful though and buy one without Benadryl in it, because there are topical Benadryl creams too and you can't use a topical AND take it orally!

I definitely didn't feel like trying to put shoes on my hivey feet and go to the store so I soaked in epsom salt and feel a little better.

I don't know why in the world I've never thought of making my own oatmeal bath! I have everything you could want right here.......even lavender plants, lemon balm plants, mint leaves, and an assortment of essential oils! *facepalm*

I am so mixing up some bath soaks tomorrow! I'm putting these hives on notice to vacate! LOL

Do you have a physical spot where you know you got bitten just do not know by what? Keep a serious eye on the bite. Even in Ontario where we have few nasty spiders I've seen some pretty ugly spider bites. Unless the allergic reaction gets worse and starts to compromise breathing at all, even just throat feeling funny like the I'm about to get sick tickle take yourself into ER, walk in clinic, etc.. Otherwise keep up the advise here. If you want a no mess oatmeal bath put the oatmeal in an old stocking and tie a knot in it. Benefits of oatmeal without the nasty mess to clean up.

Yes Mafia, I was bit just don't know by what. We don't have too many poisonous things here in N. Indiana either, but like you guys, we do have a few nasty variety spiders!

Thanks for you concern, and the advice on the stocking! I was trying to figure out what I was going to put it in since I'm out of cheese cloth at the moment, nylons should be perfect!

Anyway, I think it's a bit better this morning, still itchy, but the welts seem to be fading so maybe an oatmeal soak with finish them off!

Start downing the vitamin C. My allergist told me to take vitamin C when I get into soy, etc...C is one of the best things for allergies. I read the other day 2 cups of green tea and 2000mg of Vitamin C will cut allergies by 40%...taken each day that is. I use ester C. Of course benedryl the old standby if you can take it. The tabs that melt have soy. Are you sure you haven't ingested something your allergic to? My lips usually, only swell if something has touched them, food, kissing dog or hubby, and they have been around something I'm allergic to. oatmeal bath...good stuff.

I was bit by a spider a few months ago. I made an epsom salts pack and kept it on the spot for a couple of days. Helped a bunch.

When I had hives I took Benedryl, a cool shower, and went to sleep. When I woke up they were gone (worst sensation of my entire life. Painful, beyond itchy, ugh.)
