Love old dog pix! I would so take any of those Pems :)

This was strangely in "the complete Belgian Tervuren"
I'm not sure it's all that strange. Those breeds all share some common ancestry. It would seem it's not unlikely there was some interbreeding of them occasionally, before people got weird about that sort of thing.

I know, I wish I could still find a Pem more so like a lot of those today, that aren't from unhealth tested BYBer's :(.

And I said strange, just because I was SO not expecting to see that in there! I was at a book sale (where I buy nearly all my books from) and found that one, and as I was pawing through it I saw that page and was a bit shocked to see Beaucerons! So of coarse I had to buy it ($3.50 all hard covers). I guess I shouldn't say strange, nor should I be shocked, I've always loved "the complete" series of books best, wish we could get one printed for Beaucerons.

Most of the pics feature Colby dogs because I really like the look of them, especially when they are in this harness. I would love to get one for Kai.

This one always impress me with the length of its legs.

Now this dog oft gets listed as a FT by many.. but a fair amount as a JRT. I would say the dog looks far more JRT. Regardless when this picture was painted the FT and the JRT were essentially the same breed.

Here is one for Sit Stay

I don't know why, but black-and-white images always make dogs look so dignified.

This is a stupendous thread. All the pictures are so fascinating. There's just something about the way dogs were and how they've gone through the ages. Those GSDs look sooo much better than the majority of today's GSDs, I think. Anyhow, thanks for making this fun thread!

Those are really interesting Brattina. But when I get to the bottom of the page, my heart melts. Your siggy, with your two looking out the window is just adorable. I love their posture and pose.:)

I love seeing all the little terriers from the old days. They haven't changed too much!

One of my favorites in his pedigree. I love how this dog looks.
2X VA1 Roland von Starkenburg from 1903

I fell in love with this dog the first time I saw a pic of him probably 25 years ago. I dreamed to have a dog that looked like that. Funny, I think I came close. They just haven't been GSDs :rofl1:

Supposedly a long-ago photo of the now extinct Blue Paul, brought here by the Irish and Scots who settled in this region. Interestingly, we have a significant incidence of blue and blue-brindle APBTs in this area, and they're very true to type.

No, that's AKC Ch. Lylane Blue Tango.

This page has a more complete pedigree.

The animal most frequently depicted in Colima art is the hairless dog, today known as the Chihuahua. In addition to raising dogs as a food source, many peoples of highland Mexico believed that a dog accompanied a person's soul on the journey into the underworld. Discovery of these dog images in tombs suggests they were intended as companions for the deceased.

Were Chihuahuas ever hairless? Wouldn't that be the Xolo?
