Everyone always says hide and seek is a great game to play with your dogs but I'd never done it before (not for any reason, just hadn't). Today we tried it and the girls LOVED it! :D The first couple of rounds they stared at me like, where to? Jasmine caught on faster than Domino but by the fourth round they were both scouring the living room for treats. It was really cute to see them both with their heads under the couch and their butts in the air (I should've taken pictures!).

The cat joined in too but she's a little brat. If Domino got near some food she was slowly eating, she'd hiss and swat at Dom. I kicked her little butt out of the room. :p

It was so cute when they really got into it. You could hear their noses going a mile away. We'll definitely play this game often! :D

Summer loves it too! I put her in a down stay and then hide and release her. She thinks it's a blast. Unfortunately I can't play it much here (600 sq foot apartment has maybe 3 places to hide).

hubby and I will play hide and seek with our bodies and the dogs. one of us will go with the dogs into the laundry room with the door shut while the other hides(so no cheating shelties do not peek!). And then the one hiding with the dogs will encourage "wheres mommy?" (or daddy) then the dogs come and find who ever is hiding
the dogs LOVE that game!

****, I lost my first message lol

Anyways.

I play "hide the food" with this one every day because I usually just randomly chuck his meal somewhere. So he gets to spend 15 minutes or so pretending to be a wild animal scenting, foraging and bone crunching, he enjoys it :)

But some of the best fun you can have with a dog is playing hide and seek with you as the reward. Like Laurelin with Summer.

Like I said in the other thread I take him out late at night to the park, offleash. If I put him in a downstay he'll find me too quickly.

What I do is chuck a stick as far as I can into the water and then when he isn't expecting it I run as fast as I can into the thickest bush I can. When I hear him exit the water I might make a rustling or a kissing sound, and then it's on.

Gives you and appreciation for just how scent reliant they are, too. I don't know about your dogs but mine follows the trail and sometimes air scents. I can be within his range of vision and he just keeps going. Sometimes he gets so close I think he must be blind lol.

My favorite doggy game :p

I haven't tried the hide and seek with me game. My place doesn't have many rooms so there wouldn't be too many places to hide, but I might try it every once and awhile. I wouldn't trust 'em out and about, I don't think I'd be more exciting to find than everything else out there. :p

For the food game I put them in another room so they couldn't see where I put the food. They quickly caught onto the regular spots and then hunted around everywhere else.
