Three new pets! No, they're not food. They're cute little mice, very sweet. I think I need to get a fourth though, poor Hickory and Dickory cuddle in one hide, and poor Doc sleeps by himself. I'll try to get better photos of them over the next few days, but this was a spur-of-the-moment photo shoot!

Horrible photo of Hickory. He's solid brown, more of a creamy coffee brown.

Bad photo of Dickory - he's a cute little spotty color, same creamy brown as Hickory.

And my favorite, Doc. He's albino, but the sweetest of the trio.

All three saying, "U have treets for us?"

    Cute!

And as soon as I catch the one that is moving from my garage into my house and back into my garage, well, I'll send him/her your way. ;)

NO WAY, no wild mice for me! The wild ones squick me out for some reason, but I adore domesticated mice. :D

Precious little guys! I'm curious how you house them together successfully, though. I've always been under the impression that male mice cannot be housed together because of a high risk of fights. I guess they're from the same litter?

Cute! I just shudder to think what number 4 is going to be called. I mean if the names rhyme and everything! LOL!

    Squeeeeeee! *steals*

I have been mouse-deprived since my Gadget girl passed away last year. :( I don't think I'll have mice again for a long time, but I still like the idea.

And I LOVE the names!! :D

^ yeah, what he said! I've always been told housing even two together is a bad idea. Then again, if there are not females to fight over perhaps they're fine?

I've never heard of, nor had a problem with this in mice... I know that hamsters have issues with cagemates, and sometimes male gerbils, but mice are colony animals and prefer to have friends living with them. Honestly, they do much better with cagemates than they do as solitary pets. They usually will establish a ranking order and live by it, much the way our dogs do, and that's about it.

Of course, there are always exceptions to the rule, but in general there aren't much gender issues with housing mice. Well, unless you combine unfixed males and females in one habitat... then you would have the issues with way-more-mice-than-you-ever-intended-to-have. :p

    Re: housing them together

I've always heard of problems housing hamsters and gerbils together. These guys (girls? I need to check) are very young now, so no problems yet. If we have problems, we'll separate them. :)

Easy to check on mice! Females are the only ones that have nipples in the mouse kingdom. Poor males :p

Males have nipples - they just aren't as visible. :) And that's not reliable anyway. Their hind end is far more reliable, their... well, their BALLS are like, right up IN YOUR FACE.

Makes sense, I know my males' nipples were always covered in fur and I Think I only checked because I'd read it online. But yeah, their doodly bits are pretty obvious though perhaps less so on juveniles.

Oh, you said "himself" so I figured you meant male lol

I have never had success with male mice living together without a fight eventually. And I think yours will probably fight eventually (if they are males). Male mice are very territorial.

Male mice should be fine together in a large enough cage with enough hiding places.

I had 3 males in a 55 gallon tanks with tons and tons of hides..it wasn't meant to be. I had a male that KILLED the other one over night. They were perfectly fine the day before, and then during the night....the other was "mauled" to death. (They were the same size). I personally don't risk it.

They're adorable. I used to have a few mice - they're great little pets, but make sure to get a relatively quiet wheel! Th first one I had sounded like an ambush, I swear. :)

Doc reminds me of my Mozzerella - seems like they have the same temperament too. Mozzerella was like a mini dog. And Hickory looks just like others I had.

I never understood why people are squeamish around mice. How could you not love those adorable faces with those whiskers!? Have fun with them.
